JILL Janus, lead singer of the heavy metal band Huntress, has died at age 43.
Here’s what we know about the musician.
Who was Jill Janus?
Jill Janus was the lead singer of the thrash metal band Huntress.
She also sang in an all-female metal band known as The Starbreakers on the side.
The singer was an advocate for mental health and encouraged fans who were suffering to seek help.
How did she die?
The metal star’s body was found outside Portland, Oregon, after a long struggle with mental illness her family and band said Thursday.
The news broke through a statement through relatives and bandmates released through publicist Alexandra Greenberg.
A statement on the band’s official Facebook page confirmed she had killed herself.
The statement reads: “It is with crushed hearts that we announce that Jill Janus – frontwoman for the California heavy metal band Huntress – passed away on Tuesday, August 14.
“A long-time sufferer of mental illness, she took her own life outside of Portland, Oregon.”
When was her band Huntress formed?
A founding member of the band, Jill joined Huntress in Los Angeles in 2009, singing on three full-length albums.
They toured with bands including Motorhead and Lamb of God.
The band’s sound was thrashmetal, with Janus, one of the few female vocalists in the genre.
She screamed through songs like Spell Eater, Eight of Swords, and Sorrow with her long blonde hair and tight, black leather stage suits.
