Sarah Rahal The Detroit News Published 2:15 PM EST Nov 9, 2018 Redford Township — Redford Union High School and MacGowan Elementary students were evacuated from their buildings Friday due to an anonymous bomb threat called into the high school, according to district officials. Students were dismissed early around 12:30 p.m. from Redford Union High School, located at 17711 Kinloch St., the district said. MacGowan Elementary students were evacuated to Beech Elementary, where they were dismissed to parents. “MacGowan parents PLEASE do not go to MacGowan elementary,” Redford Union Schools posted on Facebook. “If any parents are unavailable to pick up their son/daughter, MacGowan, students will be dismissed from Beech Elementary at their normal 3:15 PM dismissal time.” Due to the evacuation, students who ride the bus from Beech may have a delay in their 12:07 dismissal. This isn’t the first threat Redford Township received this year. The district shut down in March due to similar threats. The high school was also on lockdown Friday morning after a student brought an Airsoft gun designed to fire plastic BBs to the building, Redford Township police said. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy issued a letter to parents on Oct. 30 asking parents to have conversations with their children related to the previous threats. “Help them understand that their words can have lifelong consequences,” the letter read. “Students can be charged criminally with crimes such as false threat of terrorism or threat of terrorism.
