Water Street is under water again. St. Paul has temporarily closed Water Street (also called Lilydale Road) to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Highway 13 and Plato Boulevard due to flooding. The Pool and Yacht Club and Harriet Island remain open to visitors. “We continue to monitor the National Weather Service’s flood forecasts with the spring melt and will keep Water Street closed until the anticipated flood waters have receded,” said Kathy Lantry, St. Paul’s Director of Public Works. The Mississippi River has risen four feet. Minor flood stage happens at 14 feet. Closing Water Street is a precautionary measure and part of the city’s flood response plan. Last year, the city closed the area on April 26. No other streets in St. Paul are threatened by rising river levels at this time. For updates, go online to http://www.stpaul.gov.
