Anthony Fenech Detroit Free Press Published 3:44 PM EDT May 15, 2019 Miguel Cabrera will not face Justin Verlander tonight. Cabrera is not in Wednesday night’s Detroit Tigers starting lineup against the Astros. He left Tuesday night’s game with right knee discomfort, manager Ron Gardenhire said. Cabrera’s removal was deemed precautionary because of the blowout nature of the 11-4 loss. Cabrera has never faced Verlander in a regular season game: He was ruled out for the season with a ruptured left biceps in early June, weeks before the Tigers’ first meeting with the Astros. The likely future Hall of Famers have faced off once before, in a live batting practice session in spring training two seasons ago. Cabrera, 36, is hitting .282 with one home run and 15 RBIs in 40 games this season. Verlander will be facing the Tigers for a third time, and second at Comerica Park. He is 1-1 against his former team.
