What was the impetus of the two-year probe into those in Trump’s sphere? Why were Trump associates spied on? Why was a document paid for by Democrats, using Russian resources, used in a FISA court to justify surveillance of Trump’s team? To answer these questions and more, Attorney General William Barr has appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham to conduct an inquiry. As the Associated Press reported, the inquiry will focus on whether the government’s methods to collect intelligence relating to the Trump campaign were lawful and appropriate. Durham is a career prosecutor and has a reputation for being non-partisan. He has a history of rooting out corruption in law enforcement including at the CIA and the Boston office of the FBI. The Mueller report did not find a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin to influence the 2016 presidential election. It’s time we find what this was really all about.
