Netflix posts job opening for flight attendant at Bay Area airport

January 28, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Netflix is stepping outside its film and reality TV show endeavors to show it’s got the gumption to give folks wings.

The Bay Area -based streaming giant posted a job opening for a flight attendant last week, which, like the budgets for some Netflix series, offered a stunning salary for potential applicants.

Per the now-removed job posting, a Netflix flight attendant is projected to make between $60,000 and $385,000 a year. The description is still visible on a Google-hosted job board , which says the job is based out of the San Jose International Airport and the flight attendant would work primarily on a super-midsize jet.

The flight attendant is responsible for a variety of duties, which include ensuring Netflix Aviation's goals for safety, performing preflight inspection of the cabin and maintaining the stockroom. "As you travel, you embrace the Netflix culture of Freedom and Responsibility, allowing you to operate with little direction and a lot of self-motivation," the job description reads.

The salary range, with its outsize numbers, brought a flurry of attention to the posting from folks in the airline industry.

Kat Nesbitt, a Dallas-based flight attendant who comments on the industry on her YouTube channel , said she was taken aback by the range. "Three hundred eighty-five thousand dollars is going to turn some heads. It definitely turned mine, especially in an economy where eggs … are costing six bucks," she said in the clip .

For some context about the role, Nesbitt characterized a key difference between passengers for corporate airlines and those for commercial airlines.

"Even in first class, we offer elevated service, but with corporate, you offer elevated, personalized, specific, above-and-beyond type of stuff," Nesbitt said. "… Sometimes, you'll have to go grocery shopping for those flights and then prepare whole meals and stuff like that."

The job ad, posted last week, has been removed. It’s unknown if the opening has been filled.

Netflix did not respond to requests for clarification.
