On Friday, Welch, a Democrat, unveiled legislation he is championing in Congress to boost international tourism. He made the announcement during a discussion at a Stowe resort with leaders of Vermont's travel and tourism industry. The legislation, co-authored by Florida Republican Rep. Gus Bilirakis would renew and fully fund the Brand USA program, a public-private partnership that promotes Vermont and other states to international tourists. It is funded through a fee on international visitors. Welch says that promoting Vermont as a four-season destination to international visitors will boost the state's economy. On the Henley Passport Index updated this month by the U.K.-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners, the Vietnamese passport has jumped five places to 90th among 107 positions against the previous ranking released last July. In Southeast Asia, a Vietnamese passport is only more powerful than Laos (92nd) and Myanmar (95th), which have visa free access to 49 and 46 destinations respectively. The index ranks passports of 200 countries and territories in the world based on data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintains the world’s largest and most comprehensive database of travel information. The region’s biggest economy, Indonesia, has risen two places to 73rd in this updated ranking with 70 visa-free destinations while Malaysia jumped one place to 12th with visa free access to 177 countries and territories. A report saying Vietnam tops a list of countries by dollar value in illicit inflows is ‘inaccurate’, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Thursday. Le Thi Thu Hang was responding to a request for comments on a January report by Washington DC-based think tank Global Financial Integrity, which said Vietnam tops the list of countries ranked by dollar value of illicit inflows in the 2006-2015 period at $22.5 billion. For the last several years, Vietnam has implemented many methods to build and complete legal frameworks, to apply international standards and abide by international recommendations and commitments to stop money laundering, Hang said at a press meeting. A Vietnamese feature film about a love that stays alive through centuries will be released in American cinemas this December. "Nhan Duyen: Nguoi Yeu Tien Kiep", unofficially translated as "Predestined: Lover From A Past Life" is directed by Luk Van. It tells the story of a man who decided to become a spirit to follow and protect his lover for centuries, until present days. The movie will be screened in cinemas in Westminster, Garden Grove, San Jose, Los Angeles and San Francisco. According to Quynh Chi, producer of the movie, her team has worked with several partners in California and signed a co-operation agreement with a distributor to take the film to international audiences.
