I feel like Tammy/Tammi usually pops up as a joke like Ron Swanson's exes and Melissa McCarthy's movie. She has never felt connected to her first name ( Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto) "I've disliked it for years but it never felt like the right time to change it. I've also gone through phases where I kept it out of stubbornness because I didn't want to seem ashamed of having a working class name (cutesy alternative spelling)." But after spending so long disliking her name, she is … [Read more...] about ‘My name is so tacky that it’s given to weird characters in movies – I hate it’

Image: Reuters/Mario Anzuoni LOS ANGELES—More movie theaters this weekend will be showing “The Fablemans,” “Tar” and “Women Talking,” a move to capitalize on the films’ Oscar nominations at a time when dramas are struggling to draw people to cinemas. After moviegoing plunged during the pandemic, audiences have returned in droves to action-packed blockbusters such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The “Avatar” sequel has raked in more than $2 billion, ranking as the sixth-highest grossing film of all time. Many of the Hollywood dramas targeted at adult viewers have not fared nearly as well. Some older moviegoers simply have not returned to the local megaplex, industry executives told Reuters. The 45-year-old tells AsiaOne that his encounter with a corpse remains one of the most memorable experiences in his career, but it's for a heartwarming reason. Back in his palliative care days, he would be on call to support the family members of the deceased. "What I did was I actually knelt also in front of the deceased, and touched his body, just like what the girl was doing. So when that happened, the girl actually felt that, hey, there's someone there." … [Read more...] about ‘I was literally touching a dead body’: This male social worker shares ups and downs of job
The UK seaside town featuring in new Hollywood blockbuster – & is so cool that even Americans are moving there
A SEASIDE town in the UK has featured in a new Hollywood blockbuster film - and it's so popular, Americans are even moving to it. The Kent town of Margate has recently been featured on a number of 'cool' lists, listed as having one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in the UK by Time Out. It has since been featured in the new Sam Mendes film, Empire of Light , starring Olivia Colman . Set in the 1980s, the film itself takes place at the Dreamland cinema, transformed for the movie but remains closed to the public. There is even an Empire of Light film tour to spot all the filming locations, including the lido and Victorian train station. As someone who lives here myself , I'm rarely surprised by the 'cool' factor Margate is given, thanks to its abundance of local wine bars, cafes and shops selling books and artwork.
