Getting off the dime against Tampa Bay won’t be as easy as in the past. With former Jets head coach Todd Bowles as new defensive coordinator, the Bucs have switched from the Tampa 2 to a 4-3 alignment, added ex-Ram Ndamukong Suh and NFL sacks leader Shaquil Barrett to improve a below-average defense. They held the 49ers, Panthers and Giants to their lowest rushing totals of the season. Could that trend catch up to them? Concerns about the offensive line deepened when right guard Austin Blythe sprained an ankle against the Saints. If Blythe doesn’t play, could the line’s youth catch up to them? Jared Goff and receivers Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp had bright moments last week, but the passing game hasn’t clicked consistently. That really could catch up to them against a Cleveland defense ranked fifth in passing yards allowed and third in quarterback sacks thanks to defensive end Myles … [Read more...] about Rams vs. Cleveland Browns: Who has the edge?
By Kevin Modesti | [email protected] | Daily NewsPUBLISHED: September 5, 2019 at 1:45 pm | UPDATED: September 5, 2019 at 1:45 pm Every Rams opponent this season will be trying a little harder to beat the NFC champions, to outsmart their mastermind head coach, to outplay their $110 million quarterback. Their reputation now works against them. The other side will use all of its tricks, if it has tricks. The proverbial target on their back means that any of those games that might have looked like soft touches on past Rams schedule will be among the games of the year now for the rival of the week. Although the traditional way of rating these things shows the Rams with the sixth-easiest schedule in the NFL (their 16 opponents averaged 7.6 wins in 2018), it’s probably not going to be that cushy. September and October present the Rams with games against the up-and-coming Browns and three other opponents projected to improve from sub-.500 records last year to over .500 this year, … [Read more...] about Rams preview: 2019 schedule and game-by-game predictions
The Red Sox and the Cardinals will face off in the 2013 World Series, and it will be the fourth time in history the two teams will compete for baseball’s championship. But the sports rivalry between Boston and St. Louis goes way back and stretches across many sports. With that in mind, here’s a look at the postseason and championship history between Boston and St. Louis. 1946 World Series The 1946 season saw Ted Williams return to the Red Sox after serving in Navy and Marines during World War II. Williams won the MVP award that year after batting .342 with 38 home runs and 123 RBIs. The Red Sox went 104-50 and won the American League pennant for the first time since 1918, finishing 12 games ahead of the second-place Detroit Tigers. The Cardinals, on the other hand, went 98-58 that year, winning the NL pennant by just two games over the Brooklyn Dodgers. In the World Series, the Red Sox took Game one with a 3-2 victory in Sportsman’s Park, coming back to tie the … [Read more...] about Boston vs. St. Louis: Sports rivalry history
