Sir Mick Jagger turns 80 in July, but he's still prancing round the stage with the Rolling Stones . Yet, I hear that the singer's daughter, Jade Jagger, is already giving up her career - at the tender age of 51 Jade has been a designer of fine jewellery for three decades. However, yesterday she declared: 'Today is the first day I decided to stop working at jewellery. I think it will bring new light, new love and new opportunities. 'Thank you to all that supported me. Change is good.' The news may come as a relief to Kate Moss, who received a necklace from Jade in 2002. When the supermodel inspected it closely, she was shocked to discover one word spelled out in decorative stones: 'SLAG'. Jade — whose mother is Sir Mick's first (and only) wife Bianca — had been going out for two years with Dan Macmillan, the louche model son of the Earl of Stockton, when she reportedly discovered that he had also been enjoying a relationship with Moss, 49. Uganda passes bill to jail all gay people: Rights group condemn ‘appalling’ law in country where homosexuality is already illegal
The Ugandan parliament has passed a bill setting out jail terms of up to 10 years for offences related to same-sex relationships, forcing rights groups to condemn the legislation as 'appalling'. The Bill was passed late on Tuesday inside a packed parliamentary chamber in the capital Kampala. A roll call was ordered by the House speaker who had repeatedly warned it was necessary to identify those who might oppose the legislation. It was supported by nearly all of the 389 legislators present. Speaker Anita Among said: 'Congratulations. Whatever we are doing, we are doing it for the people of Uganda.' An earlier version of the Bill enacted in 2014 was later nullified by a court on procedural grounds. The east African country is notorious for its intolerance of homosexuality - which was criminalised under colonial-era laws. Amnesty International subsequently urged Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni to veto the anti-gay bill, warning it was 'a grave assault' on LGBTQ people. But he … [Read more...] about Uganda passes bill to jail all gay people: Rights group condemn ‘appalling’ law in country where homosexuality is already illegal
History and Humor Inspire Victor Ehikhamenor’s Art
LONDON — Victor Ehikhamenor remembers the first time he was called an artist. Born in 1970 in a small village in Edo State in Nigeria, Mr. Ehikhamenor was given a plastic camera when he was 9. Trying to mimic one of his uncles who had emigrated to the United States in the 1960s to study photography, he would line up his friends and pretend to take pictures of them. Mr. Ehikhamenor would go home and draw the scene on pieces of paper and then hand the drawings out to those friends. “Some would pay me; some would allow me to play football with them,” Mr. Ehikhamenor, 53, said with a chuckle. An older schoolmate soon started calling him an artist, a term he had never heard. “I was like, ‘What is that?’” Mr. Ehikhamenor, who splits his time between Lagos, Nigeria, and the United States, said during a video call from his studio in Maryland. “He said, ‘What you are doing means you are an artist.’ So, then I went back to my friends and said, ‘Don’t call me anything else; call me an … [Read more...] about History and Humor Inspire Victor Ehikhamenor’s Art
