THREE balaclava-clad thugs kidnapped, attacked and then blasted a man to get their hands on his cousin's £50,000 jackpot win. Jacob Clough-Massey was forced from his home at gunpoint and bundled into his own car in a grim ransom plot. Carl MacDowall, Carlton Mullen and Kieran Kristensen then held him for hours against his will before blasting him in the leg. The masked trio, all aged 23, made repeated calls to the victim's cousin, James Clough, demanding a piece of his winnings. He had scooped £50,000 in a Facebook competition which "everybody knew about" a month before the horror. After he refused to cough up, Jacob was dumped bloodied and "dazed" on an abandoned country lane in Halewood, Merseyside. Disney World closes popular ride – and people are selling souvenirs from it for £200

January 27, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

A POPULAR ride at Disney World has closed down, leaving people selling bizarre souvenirs for as much as £200. The 30-year-old ride was permanently shut down this week after it was the subject of controversy. Now some of the last people to ride on it are trying to earn a bit of pocket money by flogging mementos they took away from the park. Splash Mountain was a popular ride among Disney World fans, set in a southern bayou and based on the 1946 film Song Of The South. However, Disney announced that the ride would be closing for good due to its racist stereotypes and portrayal of African Americans in post- Civil War South. The movie is best known for the song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah. Gregory Allen Howard who wrote ‘Remember the Titans’ dies

January 28, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

NEW YORK (AP) — Screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard, who skillfully adapted stories of historical Black figures in “Remember the Titans” starring Denzel Washington, “Ali” with Will Smith and “Harriet” with Cynthia Erivo, has died. He was 70. Howard died Friday at his home in Miami after a brief illness, according to a statement from publicist Jeff Sanderson. Howard was the first Black screenwriter to write a drama that made $100 million at the box office when “Titans” crossed that milestone in 2000. It was about a real-life Black coach coming into a newly integrated Virginia school and helping lead their football team to victory. It had the iconic line: “I don’t care if you like each other or not. But you will respect each other.” Howard said he shopped the story around Hollywood with no success. So he took a chance and wrote the screenplay himself. ″They didn’t expect it to make much money, but it became a monster, making $100 million,” he said. “It made my career,” he told the … [Read more...] about Gregory Allen Howard who wrote ‘Remember the Titans’ dies

The pretty property, with 3,233 square feet of interior space and an airy, Spanish style, is located in the Whitley Heights Historic District. It was recently rehabbed by architectural restorer Mark Haddawy . Here's a look at the details. The century-old home was remodeled under the auspices of the Mills Act, legislation that protects historic buildings and incentivizes their restoration. Charming details remain, including wrought-iron railings and a tile fireplace, though modern conveniences also win the day. Sub-Zero and Lacanche appliances grace the new kitchen, while gorgeous marble has transformed the primary bathroom. Royal magic is waning, but it is still the best option

January 27, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

WHEN I was younger, big royal events came along only once in a blue moon. We had the Silver Jubilee in 1977 and Charles and Diana’s wedding in 1981 then after that, nothing. There was more monarchy-based pageantry in North Korea. Now, though, it feels like we are breaking out the bunting and the plastic flags every other weekend. It’s a constant stream of weddings, funerals and jubilees. And it’s not over yet because in May, there’s a Coronation . It must be a nightmare for the organisers, because how do they make it feel different? And bigger. And better. Fly-pasts down the Mall? Done that. Put Brian May on the roof of the Palace? Done that as well. Soldiers marching up and down? Been doing that for centuries. Whatever they come up with, though, it’d better be good. Because I have a sneaking feeling there won’t be another Coronation after this one. It’ll be the last. I lost my legs serving in Afghanistan – now I’m climbing Mount Everest for the King and will reach top on a historic day

January 27, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

IT was the news that left the whole of Britain feeling on top of the world on the Queen’s Coronation day. As millions packed the streets of London to see young Queen Elizabeth crowned , it was announced that mountaineers Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay had become the first to conquer Everest . Now, 70 years later, a wounded war hero has a date with destiny to make history when King Charles is crowned in May. Hari Budha Magar had both legs blown off above the knee when he was a soldier in Afghanistan and a terrorist bomb exploded. Despite his terrible injuries, father-of-three Hari has set his sights on climbing Everest, the world’s highest mountain at 29,032ft, to coincide with the King’s Coronation . If he succeeds, ex-Gurkha Hari, 43, will become the first above-the-knee double-amputee to stand on the Himalayan summit. We live in town with cheapest rent in UK – mouldy homes are on brink of collapse… others are turned into drug factories

AT the corner of two rubbish-strewn streets, which are dotted with boarded-up houses, sits a two-bedroom apartment which is currently on sale for just £1,000. Locals will tell you it's overpriced. This is Hartlepool , the North East town which has been confirmed as Britain's bargain basement rental capital . According to new figures from estate agency Zoopla, the average monthly rent being paid by tenants in the town is just £496, placing it just ahead of Burnley , Lancs, at £504 and East Ayrshire in Scotland at £512. This is in comparison to London where the average rent is reckoned to be £26,316 a year, or £2,193 a month. To those squeezed renters in the capital abandoning hope of ever saving money for their own property, Hartlepool's rental market must seem like the stuff of dreams. Pamela Anderson’s ex of 12 days leaving her eye-watering fortune in his will

January 28, 2023 by www.dailystar.co.uk Leave a Comment

Pamela Anderson 's former husband of just 12 days says he's leaving her a whopping $10million (£8.1million) in his will. The Baywatch star was married to movie producer Jon Peters for just under two weeks back in 2020 with the romance very quickly fizzling out following their nuptials. Pamela, 55, had known Jon, 77, since 1989 when they decided to explore more than a platonic relationship together and while things didn't work out she has previously insisted there are "no hard feelings." Jon has now confirmed that his positive feelings towards Pamela run so deep that he has made a very generous gesture to her in his will, which she apparently had no knowledge of until recently. He told Variety: "I will always love Pamela, … [Read more...] about Pamela Anderson’s ex of 12 days leaving her eye-watering fortune in his will
