It’s easy to fall in love with this colorful, charming town. Strasbourg is a French town near the border of France and Germany. There are German influences, like the colorful half timbered houses that line many streets of Germany. However, it’s possible to pop into a tiny cafe for a fresh baguette, which reminds you that you are indeed in France. The merging of French and German cultures, along with the picturesque views everywhere you look, make for a dreamy getaway. While I could easily spend days meandering the streets of Strasbourg, we only had about a day and a half there in total. Allow me to share our stories of how we spent one day in Strasbourg. And a well-chosen craft beer is one of the best ways to wash them down, according to Mike Lee, training manager with BevMo!, a chain with 170 wine and beer markets. His pick: pale ales. “If you’re having certain foods that are comfort or sports-related, then a lighter beer makes more sense.” Chicken wings require a lot of napkins. They are often deep-fried, slathered in spicy sauces, and served with ranch or bleu cheese dips. We’re not 100 percent sure what “boofing” is, despite the fact that this very issue was discussed in a hearing of the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. All we know for certain about boofing is that it is distasteful and stupid. As was 2018. In spades. What made this year so awful? We could list many factors, including natural disasters, man-made atrocities, the utter depravity of our national political discourse, and the loss of Aretha Franklin. Instead, we’ll cite one event that, while minor, epitomizes 2018: the debut of Dr. Pimple Popper. This is a cable-TV reality show featuring high-definition slo-mo close-up videos of a California dermatologist performing seriously disgusting procedures on individuals with zits the size of mature cantaloupes. You might ask, … [Read more...] about Dave Barry’s year in review: Good riddance to 2018!
