Every year, Southern California theme parks go all out for Halloween. These parks have something for everyone, from ghouls, ghosts, and gore at events geared toward adults to spooky (but not scary) character encounters and plenty of candy at events designed for the whole family. It’s worth mentioning that you should always consult a Halloween guide to your favorite theme parks before bringing kids to after-hours events. 2 Southern California mountain lions in study found dead

Two Southern California mountain lions that were part of a National Park Service study have been found dead and rodent poison has been confirmed in one case and is suspected in the other.The Park Service says Tuesday that a male dubbed P-30 was found dead in Topanga State Park on Sept. 9 and a necropsy determined the cause was anticoagulant rodenticide poisoning.P-30 was the fifth lion in the study to die that way.The other recent lion death was discovered Aug. 15 in Malibu when the carcass of P-53 was found. California fire shuts main road to Yosemite National Park

A California wildfire has closed a main road to Yosemite National Park and prompted an evacuation order for several homes.The fire that began Sunday afternoon near the unincorporated rural town of Briceburg in Mariposa County. It’s grown to about 2,000 acres Tuesday and is just 10 percent contained.A section of State Highway 140 is shut. Wild pigs looking for food tear up Bay Area city park, lawns

An official says more than two dozen wild pigs have been ripping up a San Francisco Bay Area city’s community park, soccer fields, lawns and landscaping all over town looking for food.Jonathan Katayanagi, Lafayette’s director of parks, tells the East Bay Times feral hogs have been spotted on occasion in Lafayette for at least the past decade. But he says they seem to be especially prevalent this fall.Official say Lafayette’s maintenance staff has been working with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife to find the best way to protect the fields during the height of the busy soccer season. Park It: Kick up your heels at Sunol’s Cowboy Hootenanny

Activities at the event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will include live folk and bluegrass music, hands-on ranching activities and general celebration of the park’s homesteading history. Food will be available for purchase at the event that’s free, but there is a parking fee of $5 per vehicle. Besides the Cowboy Hootenanny, Sunol Wilderness offers Wild Wonders from 2 to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 27. Each session is a way to discover the natural world through games, activities and explorations — great for families.
