COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Groups advocating for professional social workers and abortion rights said they have succeeded in forcing a small Ohio city to significantly narrow its ban on conducting or recommending abortions and so have ended their legal challenge. The lawsuit by the National Association of Social Workers and the Abortion Fund of Ohio argued that the law, passed in May 2021, represented an “extraordinarily broad” infringement on the constitutional rights of due process and free speech. The groups' lawyers at the ACLU of Ohio and Democracy Forward further alleged the ban violated Ohio’s home-rule provisions. The city of Lebanon, in southwest Ohio, opted to revise the law rather than defend it in court. Enforcement had been placed on hold while that work took place. Opponents said they dropped their lawsuit Jan. 12 after provisions were removed that made aiding and abetting an abortion a crime, and the law was further clarified to assure that providing transportation, … [Read more...] about Ohio city rewrites abortion ban, advocacy groups end lawsuit

Arsenal legend says Gunners will beat Man City if Mikel Arteta plays strongest XI
Arsenal legend Lauren has urged Mikel Arteta to field his strongest side against Manchester City in the FA Cup. Arteta will come face to face with his close friend and former colleague Pep Guardiola when the Gunners take to the Etihad for their fourth round clash on Friday night. The fixture will hold extra importance given the two sides’ rivalry in the Premier League title race this season. With Arsenal playing City again in just two weeks’ time, there may be a temptation to rest players as the Gunners push for the title. But former Arsenal Invincibles right-back Lauren believes not losing the FA Cup tie will be key for their confidence going forward. Pep Guardiola reveals Mikel Arteta didn’t celebrate when Man City scored vs Arsenal
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has joked Mikel Arteta didn't celebrate when City would score against Arsenal , when he was the Catalan's No.2. Arteta worked under Guardiola at City for three years between 2016 and 2019 - before he left for the top job at the Gunners. And speaking ahead of the pair's reunion, Guardiola said: "Always he jumps and celebrates, except one team. "One team every time we score a goal I jump, come back he was sitting there. It was Arsenal. I said that guy likes Arsenal." However, just because Arteta liked Arsenal it didn't stop him from being ruthless against the Gunners. Quarterback’s Little Helper
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — He answers to the nickname Jet, confesses to having “little man” syndrome and has a high-pitched voice — constantly imitated by his teammates and coach — that would make a high school freshman blush. But Jerick McKinnon, the Chiefs’ diminutive running back, has also made an outsized contribution as something of a quarterback helper. He caught nine touchdown passes during the regular season to tie the Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk’s 2001 mark for scoring receptions by a running back. “He just finds a way to get in the end zone,’’ Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. “A lot of those things he’s not the first read, he’s not the second read. He’s able to just be in the right spot at the right time whenever I need to hit a check down, I can get it to him and then he makes the most of it by getting into the end zone.” Perhaps the best example of McKinnon’s savvy came in a December game against the Denver Broncos, when Mahomes was flushed from the pocket … [Read more...] about Quarterback’s Little Helper
Fans slam Atletico defender Savic as ‘f***ing idiot’ after picking up another red card
Atletico Madrid fans have been tearing into Stefan Savic after he picked up his second red card of 2023. Fierce rivals Real Madrid knocked Diego Simeone’s side out of the Copa Del Rey by securing a 3-1 victory after extra-time. Before Savic’s moment of madness, the 231st Madrid derby was pleasingly equal. A wonderful individual goal from Rodrygo cancelled out Alvaro Morata’s first half strike in what was a very entertaining and hard fought contest. However, three weeks after his silly red card against Barcelona, Savic’s extra time dismissal completely changed the game, as Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior - who was targeted with horrific racist abuse before the match - both found the net to secure a place in the semi-final. Heat finding an upside with the downside amid scoring struggles
It stands as a pragmatic approach. But to the Miami Heat there could be an upside to the downside. Entering play Friday, no NBA team averaged fewer points than the Heat’s 108.4. In terms of offensive rating, the only teams ranked lower were the lottery-bound Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. And yet, in the Heat’s previous four victories entering Friday night’s game against the Orlando Magic at Miami-Dade Arena, they held their opponents to 96, 98, 96 and 95 points. So in an obtuse way, being behind the curve might actually have the Heat ahead of the curve when it comes to pace and scoring slowing in the playoffs, with postseason success still the ultimate goal. “I don’t feel like you have a lot of playoff series that are high scoring, besides the one we watched between Minnesota and Memphis,” center Bam Adebayo said of last season’s playoffs. “Besides that, I feel like a lot of teams slow down, possession by possession, and you get those games like … [Read more...] about Heat finding an upside with the downside amid scoring struggles
