Pep Guardiola is willing to wager Vincent Kompany will one day be the manager of Manchester City. Kompany returned to the club he won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and four League Cups with, nearly four years after his departure. However, he made his comeback as the manager of Premier League-bound Burnley in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Unfortunately, his return did not go to plan at all, as his former employers trounced his side 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium. But despite the humbling and lesson Guardiola handed to him, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager insisted Kompany will one day be sat in the same place as him. Arsenal fans adamant ‘title is ours’ as Gunners go eight points clear of Man City
Arsenal fans are convinced the title is theirs after they moved eight points clear at the summit of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon. And with Manchester City out of action this weekend - due to the FA Cup - Arteta's side went eight points clear at the top. And the sizeable gap has Gunners fans dreaming of a first Premier League win in almost two decades. FA Cup semi-final heartache awaits Sheffield United duo vs Man City
Tommy Doyle was dealt Wembley heartbreak after sending Sheffield United into the FA Cup semi-finals. Doyle – on loan from Manchester City – struck a brilliant stoppage time winner to send Sheffield United into the last four as they beat Blackburn 3-2. But the draw two hours later pitted the Blades against Pep Guardiola’s City – and FA rules do not allow players to face their parent club. READ MORE: FA Cup semi-final draw confirmed as Man Utd discover potential fate before even playing Team-mate James McAtee, also on loan from City, will sit out the match as well. Conor Gallagher fell foul of the same rules last season when he was banned from Crystal Palace’s semi against Chelsea because he was on-loan from Stamford Bridge. And missing out on the chance to play at Wembley will be particularly hard for Doyle to take. Doyle admitted his lifelong dream had been to emulate his famous grandads – who both starred in Cup finals at Wembley. A Campaign to Remind Us That We Love New York (City)
Good morning. It’s Monday. We’ll get a preview of a new campaign to boost New York that has a back-to-the-future ring. I ♥ NY caught on as an icon and a catchphrase in the late 1970s, when New York seemed to be descending to new depths. The city had scraped through a fiscal crisis — barely. The “Son of Sam” killer had terrified New Yorkers. The sentence “ Ladies and gentlemen, the Bronx is burning ” had disturbed them. This morning, a coalition of elected officials and “community partners” will introduce a new campaign with the mark (as such things are called in advertising and marketing) We ♥ NYC. The people who came up with We ♥ NYC say it is a mark for a different time. But they see parallels to the troubled era that gave rise to I ♥ NY. “We’re hopefully going to be able to cut through divisiveness and negativity” that accompanied the pandemic, said Kathryn Wylde, the president and chief executive of the Partnership for New York City , a consortium of … [Read more...] about A Campaign to Remind Us That We Love New York (City)
Housing towers are coming to downtown Berkeley — whether the city wants them or not
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 4 Downtown Berkeley, more than any spot in the Bay Area, shows how statewide housing policies could soon alter the scale of our local cities — for better or worse. Six buildings of 16 to 28 stories are proposed in the central core, a setting where only one structure above 13 stories has been built since 1971. An eclectic two-block-wide corridor of buildings of various dimensions and architectural styles would be joined by chunky structures of a much different scale, three at heights that rival UC-Berkeley’s Campanile. One reason for the shift is that more Berkeley residents – and those in other Bay Area cities – now accept that the region needs to provide homes for all types of people. But there’s another factor at work: Legislators in Sacramento have passed a raft of bills to make it easier for developers to build residential buildings, meaning that cities like Berkeley have … [Read more...] about Housing towers are coming to downtown Berkeley — whether the city wants them or not

Haaland hits another hat-trick as City slickers show Kompany no mercy
MANCHESTER, United Kingdom — Burnley manager Vincent Kompany endured a nightmare return to Manchester City on Saturday as Erling Haaland scored his sixth hat-trick of the season in a 6-0 rout that sent Pep Guardiola's men into the FA Cup semifinals. Kompany, who won four Premier League titles in an 11-year career at City as a player, was given a hero's reception at the Etihad Stadium. But on the pitch City showed no mercy toward its former captain as Haaland took his tally for the season to 42 goals. Julian Alvarez also scored twice and Cole Palmer netted the other goal as City remained on course for a treble of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. Haaland scored five as RB Leipzig was put to the sword in a 7-0 thrashing in the Champions League last week. The Norwegian has now scored at least a hat-trick in six of his 19 appearances at the Etihad this season. "It's been a good couple of games — important games. (To win) 7-0 and 6-0 before the national team break is … [Read more...] about Haaland hits another hat-trick as City slickers show Kompany no mercy
IN NEW YORK CITY, KANSAS STATE HEADS FOR ANOTHER BASKETBALL SEASON FUNERAL
(CTN News) – Despite an arena full of Kentucky blue, Kansas State sent the Wildcats home on their first weekend, again. As Keyontae Johnson delivered a dagger with 1:23 left, Kentucky’s chants of “Go Big Blue” weren’t enough to carry them to the Sweet-Sixteen. As Kentucky fans headed for the exits, the Kansas State crowd, minuscule compared to BBN, began its own chants. During the second half alone, eight lead changes were made, so college basketball fans were sure to be entertained. Every time you thought Kentucky was about to go on a run, Kansas State kept fighting back. Wildcats scored every point in the first half around the basket, as they attempted to score in a variety of ways. During the final ten minutes of the game, Greensboro’s lead changed six times. However, the underlying tone of this game was Kentucky’s failure to reach the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament again. Three years in a row, the Cats will watch the Sweet-16 at home for the third time. After … [Read more...] about IN NEW YORK CITY, KANSAS STATE HEADS FOR ANOTHER BASKETBALL SEASON FUNERAL
Cutting outdoor water use in Commerce City stymied by “legacy” landscape code
COMMERCE CITY — Derek Rinehart wants to disrupt the cohesion in his neighborhood — and he wants to save hundreds of gallons of water doing it. But Rinehart’s desire to rip out the grass in front of his home, a ubiquitous feature lining the quiet streets in Commerce City’s Reunion neighborhood, and replace it with drought-tolerant vegetation is running up against a formidable obstacle: city regulations. Commerce City’s landscape standards say that the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street, also known as the tree lawn, “shall consist of turf grass and automatic irrigation system.” That means Rinehart’s plan to plant Delosperma Table Mountain — a drought-resistant, purple-flowered ground cover — across 130 feet of tree lawn on two sides of his house is on hold. “I see a lot of towns spending a lot of money on xeriscaping and we’re fighting it for some reason,” Rinehart said, referring to the practice of mixing low-water plants with elegantly situated rocks to create a … [Read more...] about Cutting outdoor water use in Commerce City stymied by “legacy” landscape code
“We love Denver.” Gonzaga Bulldogs just passed Syracuse for most NCAA tourney wins in Mile High City
Anton Watson’s weekend at Ball Arena: two games, 11.5 points per game, 11.5 rebounds per game and, most importantly, two big NCAA Tournament wins. “We love Denver,” the Gonzaga forward told The Post late Sunday night after his third-seeded Zags outlasted six-seeded TCU, 84-81, to advance to the Sweet 16. “We’ve got a lot of fans out here — it’s close to the (Pacific Time Zone), so the time difference isn’t too crazy. “It reminds me a lot of Spokane, just the weather, the snow and stuff. So it kind of felt like home a little bit.” It showed. The Zags’ 2-0 performance on Chopper Circle confirmed Denver as Gonzaga’s March home away from home. The West Coast Conference giant now has the most victories of any college basketball program in Denver — five — since the NCAA tourney expanded to its current format in 1985. Gonzaga this March passed Syracuse, which had set the standard in the Mile High City with four NCAA tourney wins here since 1985. “We had great success playing … [Read more...] about “We love Denver.” Gonzaga Bulldogs just passed Syracuse for most NCAA tourney wins in Mile High City
