Dave Birkett Detroit Free Press Published 5:33 PM EDT Apr 25, 2019 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – When the 2019 NFL draft kicks off Thursday night in downtown Nashville, all eyes will be on the quarterbacks. Not just Kyler Murray, who remains shrouded in mystery as the potential No. 1 overall pick, but – for Detroit Lions fans, at least – on Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins, too. The Lions have the eighth pick in the first round, their highest selection since they took Ziggy Ansah with the fifth pick of the 2013 draft, and while they’re not expected to draft Jones or Haskins or any other quarterback early, they stand to benefit if one of those players joins Murray in becoming a top-seven selection. [ NFL draft: Our best stories, analysis, predictions, opinions and more ] The Arizona Cardinals at No. 1, Oakland Raiders at No. 4 and New York Giants at No. 6 are all candidates to draft a signal caller with their first pick, and a team like Washington or the … [Read more...] about ‘Everything’s logical’ for Detroit Lions in wide open 2019 NFL draft
Coach for detroit lions
Justin Rogers The Detroit News Published 3:43 PM EST Nov 20, 2018 Allen Park — Eighty-eight hours. That's the time between kickoffs of the Chicago Bears' Sunday night game this past weekend and this Thursday's Thanksgiving matchup with the Detroit Lions. As it turns out, it's the shortest turnaround between games in modern NFL history. "It’s a unique situation to have that night game and then right into an early day game, but it is what it is," Bears coach Matt Nagy said. "Our guys, once we knew it, we prepped them on what our game plan is as far as making sure they’re mentally and physically strong and how they have to treat it." The Bears weren't original scheduled to play on prime time. The league flexed the game with the Vikings, replacing the originally scheduled matchup between the Jaguars and Steelers. Nagy attempted to take a positive angle, noting things have to be going well for his team to be moved to a prime-time slot in … [Read more...] about Chicago Bears face daunting turnaround in preparing for Detroit Lions
Justin Rogers The Detroit News Published 1:39 PM EST Nov 20, 2018 Allen Park — Welcome to the Thanksgiving edition of the Detroit Lions mailbag, where I'm thankful you guys are still coming up with interesting questions. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Forgive me for steering clear of bold proclamations after Ford played a grand total of 29 defensive snaps in his debut. In that performance, he gave up a reception all five times he was targeted and missed a tackle on two of Panthers' three longest plays, including the 82-yarder to D.J. Moore in the third quarter. The Lions have kept Ford around on the practice squad all season and immediately started him after his promotion, so they're clearly pleased with what they've been seeing on the practice field. But even as poorly as Teez Tabor has played this season, it's OK to let the competition play out the remainder of the season before declaring one is a more reliable solution going forward. I don't anticipate the … [Read more...] about Lions mailbag: Can Zach Zenner pick up the slack for Detroit Lions?
By Matt Schoch Special to The Detroit News Published 3:52 PM EST Nov 9, 2018 Cornerback Darius Slay (knee) and offensive guard T.J. Lang (neck) were ruled out by the Lions on Friday after not practicing this week. Slay, an All-Pro last season, has played every game the past two seasons for the Lions. He had his second interception of the season last week against Minnesota. Lang has been battling a number of injuries this season and did not make it through last week’s game against Minnesota, for which he was questionable with a hip injury. Kenny Wiggins has been playing right guard when Lang has been unavailable this season. In addition, running back Kerryon Johnson was listed as questionable Friday because of an ankle injury. The Lions listed linebacker Eli Harold as doubtful for the game. Defensive end Ziggy Ansah, linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin and tight end Luke Willson also were questionable. Dave Birkett Detroit Free Press Published 3:43 PM EDT Oct 24, 2018 Damon Harrison was not on the field for the start of Detroit Lions practice on Wednesday, and that was good news to Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. "Yeah, I was hoping he’s going to take his time getting there," Carroll said in a conference call with Detroit reporters. "Maybe even drive or something, get there on Saturday or whatever. That’s the best thing that’ll happen for us, if he arrives maybe on Saturday." The Lions and New York Giants are working through final details of a trade that will send Harrison to Detroit for a 2019 fifth-round pick, and for now it remains unclear how soon Harrison will see the field. The Lions have two more practices this week, Thursday and Friday, plus a Saturday walk-through, to get ready for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, and Lions coach Matt Patricia said there's no telling how long it could take a new defensive tackle to learn his scheme. … [Read more...] about Pete Carroll: Damon Harrison ‘a great get’ for Detroit Lions
