Nick Baumgardner Detroit Free Press Published 7:13 PM EDT Mar 27, 2019 ANAHEIM, Calif. — Luke Yaklich is often the first to admit he can get a bit carried away with his film study and note-taking. And on a Thursday night in December, one of those moments happened. Yaklich, Michigan's top defensive assistant, found himself watching the end of Texas Tech's matchup with Duke at Madison Square Garden. The Blue Devils ultimately won the game, but Yaklich couldn't stop himself from watching how Chris Beard's club bothered the hell out of what most would call the country's most talented basketball team for 40 minutes. So, as usual, he went one step further. "I pulled up (coaching video tool) Synergy and I watched like their last 100 defensive possessions," Yaklich said. "I just wanted to see what they were doing so well." On Thursday night, with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line, Yaklich and the rest of Michigan's basketball team will get an … [Read more...] about Michigan basketball ready to grind into Elite Eight vs. Texas Tech

Chris Solari Detroit Free Press Published 4:00 PM EST Nov 10, 2018 EAST LANSING — Rarely does a first game of the season give as much insight as Michigan State discovered Tuesday. For a half, the 10th-ranked Spartans looked light years off from No. 1 Kansas, missing shots, committing turnovers and losing out on loose balls one after another. They fell behind by double-digits. Everything changed at halftime. MSU got within three points with about 30 seconds to play but could not get closer, with Kansas holding on for a 92-87 win in the Champions Classic in Indianapolis. “There was something to take from the game,” Izzo said. "I just wish it was 1997 or 98, and then you’d feel good about coming back like that. I feel more bad about how we played at the beginning. I didn’t really enjoy the comeback.” That isn’t to say there wasn’t plenty of things to glean from it. “I’m a guy that always looks at life as the glass is … [Read more...] about Michigan State basketball: What went right, wrong vs. Kansas
BUCKSPORT, S.C. — The last community in the way of Hurricane Florence's floodwaters as they slowly flow to the sea got some good news Wednesday — the predictions aren't as dire as they once were. And it appears the Waccamaw River won't top a lake of coal ash or the main highway to Myrtle Beach. Officials originally expected flooding in the worst areas of Georgetown County to be from 5 to 10 feet (1.5 to 3 meters). But the latest forecast lowered that estimate to 2 to 4 feet (0.6 to 1.2 meters), according to the county's Facebook page."The water is spreading," Georgetown County Administrator Sel Hemingway said Wednesday. "We are not seeing the vertical rise."Twelve days after the once-fierce hurricane arrived on the coast, and more than a week after it blew north and dissipated, rivers swollen by its relentless rains are still flooding homes and businesses in their paths as they make their way to the sea. And even the new flooding forecasts are still well above records set … [Read more...] about Teenager fighting cancer surprised with four seats for Game 2 vs. Dodgers
