Doctor explains why Brits are being plagued with never-ending coughs this winter

January 18, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Coughs that last a long time this winter may be the result of people picking up one infection after another, a GP expert has said. Professor Kamila Hawthorne, chairwoman of the Royal College of GPs, said doctors have noticed that the current round of respiratory infections seems to be lasting longer than usual. She said figures from the College's research and surveillance centre show that rates of lower and upper respiratory tract infections are well above the average usually seen so far in winter. This is echoed in weekly data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), which has found high rates of flu and other respiratory viruses. Prof Hawthorne said: "It's not clear why some of the current respiratory infections going around do seem to be lasting longer than usual - this has been noticed by doctors as well as patients, but we are not entirely sure why this is happening. Mum can’t afford to feed eight-month-old baby because formula prices are too high

January 26, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

A mum -of-two has told of how she is unable to formula-feed her baby amid the cost-of-living crisis , which has seen the price of infant milk soaring. Kendall Platt, 36, has been forced to continue breastfeeding her youngest child, Elora, who is now eight months old, despite experiencing issues when doing so with her first child, Arwen, now 4. As inflation rises, affecting the price of everything from formula to nappies, the mum has been left worrying about the future. The mum-of-two from Berkshire, near Reading, said it wasn't just the cost of formula that had shot up - it was also pouches of baby food, gas and electricity. “I could change to another brand of formula, but they’re all more expensive than they previously were as well," she added. Mum who breastfeeds her five-year-old hits back at cruel trolls -‘it’s completely normal’

A mother of two who breastfeeds her eldest child even though he's five-years-old has hit back at cruel trolls - who branded her an abuser. Lauren McLeod, 29, had her first child, Bowie, in August 2017 and breastfed him as a baby - initially planning to stop when he turned two. But when Bowie reach that age he showed no signs of wanting to give up breastfeeding so the mum continued - even after she had her daughter, Tiger Lily, now two, in May 2020. Lauren spoke out previously and said she'd only stop breastfeeding her eldest son when he wants to , but she was met with a barrage of hurtful comments online as people said it was 'gross' or 'abusive' for her to still feed her son in that way. Now she's hit back at the trolls, saying: "'Breastfeeding beyond infancy is completely normal." Vladimir Putin body double ‘spotted’ after viewers notice clue in his shoes

January 26, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Extraordinary new claims were made today that a major Vladimir Putin outing this week involved a body double and not the real president. The warlord was pictured wearing heeled shoes to bolster his 5ft 7in height during a meeting with Moscow State University students on Wednesday. But his smiling façade contrasts with a video from the day before when the glum 70-year-old dictator’s right hand was concealed from view. The latest claim of a doppelgänger came from Telegram channel General SVR. It suggested Putin’s “main double” - one of an alleged team of actors who have undergone plastic surgery to emulate a sickly and often-absent Putin - was deployed on this week’s university visit marking Russian Student Day. It's been claimed the man meeting Moscow students was actually one of three doppelgangers used by the Russian leader ( Image: Maksim Mishin/AP/REX/Shutterstock) “During a public meeting with students…many noticed some oddities and physiological features … [Read more...] about Vladimir Putin body double ‘spotted’ after viewers notice clue in his shoes

Located on Taiwan’s southwestern coast, Tainan, the island’s oldest city and former capital, has a long history of cultural incursion, much of which can be traced through its existing architecture. Dutch traders started building forts here in the early 1600s, and Ming and Qing loyalists seized control about half a century later. From 1895 to 1945, while the island was under Japanese rule, city planners upgraded Tainan’s municipal grid with new roads, European-style shop houses and an imposing government hall with a mansard roof. Today, relics of the past can be found all over town, sharing space with the street food vendors and restaurants that have made Tainan the … [Read more...] about Chefs and Bartenders Are Injecting New Life Into Taiwan’s Oldest City
