AN urgent health warning has been extended as freezing cold conditions have been forecast into the weekend. A level three cold weather alert has been extended now from Friday until Saturday by the UK Health Security Agency. Brits were today braced for more flooding . The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) extended the current level 3 cold weather alert until 12pm on Saturday 28 January. The Environment Agency has activated 33 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible, and 13 flood warnings, meaning flooding is likely. The warnings cover areas including the Ebble Valley in Wiltshire and the Tarrant Valley in Dorset . Most of them are related to groundwater flooding, where the ground is so waterlogged that it cannot absorb any more and so the excess water floods the surface. It comes after heavy rain and freezing fog have blighted the country in recent weeks, giving groundwater no time to evaporate away. Woman, 30, sold gun to violent gangster in Aldi car park to fund her luxurious lifestyle
A WOMAN sold a gun to a violent gangster in an Aldi car park to fund her luxorious lifestyle, a court has heard. Fiona Crooks and her boyfriend Vincent Horsfall had legitimately bought the gun before flogging it to a man convicted of drug dealing , kidnapping , and inflicting grievous bodily harm. Liverpool Crown Court was told they sold the firearm to fund “cosmetic dental work” and Crooks encouraged Horsall to do so, so “they could enjoy the trappings of a luxurious lifestyle". Cops found a second gun in Crook’s home when they raided the Liverpool property where she lived with her daughter and Horsfall in September 2021. They were caught out when Cops spotted an advertisement .41 caliber Colt Thunderer revolver handgun on a website called Gunstar for £2,100 in April 2021, reports The Liverpool Echo. Crooks and Horsall then met in the car park of Lidl, where Horsall handed over the gun. I lost my legs serving in Afghanistan – now I’m climbing Mount Everest for the King and will reach top on a historic day
IT was the news that left the whole of Britain feeling on top of the world on the Queen’s Coronation day. As millions packed the streets of London to see young Queen Elizabeth crowned , it was announced that mountaineers Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay had become the first to conquer Everest . Now, 70 years later, a wounded war hero has a date with destiny to make history when King Charles is crowned in May. Hari Budha Magar had both legs blown off above the knee when he was a soldier in Afghanistan and a terrorist bomb exploded. Despite his terrible injuries, father-of-three Hari has set his sights on climbing Everest, the world’s highest mountain at 29,032ft, to coincide with the King’s Coronation . If he succeeds, ex-Gurkha Hari, 43, will become the first above-the-knee double-amputee to stand on the Himalayan summit. AT the corner of two rubbish-strewn streets, which are dotted with boarded-up houses, sits a two-bedroom apartment which is currently on sale for just £1,000. Locals will tell you it's overpriced. This is Hartlepool , the North East town which has been confirmed as Britain's bargain basement rental capital . According to new figures from estate agency Zoopla, the average monthly rent being paid by tenants in the town is just £496, placing it just ahead of Burnley , Lancs, at £504 and East Ayrshire in Scotland at £512. This is in comparison to London where the average rent is reckoned to be £26,316 a year, or £2,193 a month. Mass shootings lead to widening divide on state gun policies
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 14 JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Mass shootings have commanded public attention on a disturbingly frequent basis across the U.S. But rather than provoking a unified response from elected officials, each additional shooting seems to be widening the political divide on gun policy among states. “It’s wash, rinse and repeat with these mass shootings,” said Michael Anderson, a bartender who survived a mass shooting at a Colorado nightclub. “They happen, and then they happen, and then they happen — and then nothing gets done.” At least nothing that has put a halt to the violence. In Democratic-led states with already restrictive gun laws, officials have responded to home-state tragedies with even more limits on guns — doubling down on a belief that future shootings can be thwarted by controlling access to lethal weapons.
