SAN ANTONIO — The shooting of three women of Korean descent at a Dallas hair salon appeared to be part of a pattern of shootings at Asian businesses around the North Texas city, the chief of police said on Friday, citing the presence of a similar burgundy minivan at the scene of two other shootings. The discovery immediately altered the course of the investigation into the shooting, which took place on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators had not initially believed that the salon shooting was a hate crime and the chief of police, Eddie Garcia, said earlier in the week that nothing indicated such a motive. “I had given you an update on this case and at that time in the investigation we did not have any indication that this crime was hate-motivated,” Chief Garcia told reporters on Friday. “As of this afternoon, that has changed. Ebanie Bridges was told she was “too pretty to fight” even after world title
Professional boxer Ebanie Bridges has addressed the stigma she has faced while making her way in the sport - and revealed it is even happening now that she is world champion. The Australian came to boxing relatively late in her career, having worked as a maths teacher as well as competing in bodybuilding. But, this didn’t prevent Bridges from defeating rival Maria Cecilia Roman two months ago to become world champion at the age of 35. Bridges' fighting prowess has won her a number of admirers in the ring, and outside the ropes, social media has been flooded with memes about her awkward relationship with Eddie Hearn, who she claimed to have spotted blushing while the fighter posed in lingerie at a weigh-in. And, speaking to the Fight Night boxing podcast , Ebanie admitted that these stunts had exposed her to stigma from some fans who refused to take her seriously, even to this day. “I’ve been battling stigmas and stereotypes since I turned pro,” she confessed. … [Read more...] about Ebanie Bridges was told she was “too pretty to fight” even after world title
Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter was extremely Elon Musk
It was a classic Elon Musk move: announce a new offering that would radically transform the technology landscape, flog it onstage and in social media posts, only for it to turn out that the offering in question was nowhere close to market-ready. Only this time, it wasn’t a self-driving taxi or domestic robot or electric truck the world’s richest man was touting. It was a plan to buy Twitter, Musk’s favorite megaphone and time-waster and, according to him, a public square of vital importance to democracy. Early Thursday, the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive notified the Securities and Exchange Commission of a bid to buy all of Twitter for $54.20 a share, or $43 billion. “Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company,” he wrote in a letter to Bret Taylor, chair of its board of directors. Within hours, the social media service’s board was reportedly mulling over strategies for holding him off, Wall Street was behaving as if the bid was another one of Musk’s jokes, and Musk … [Read more...] about Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter was extremely Elon Musk

The S&P 500 is on a six-week losing streak and about 16% below its all-time high. But could stocks still have a lot more room to fall? Some would argue that the brief, Covid-induced bear market in the spring of 2020 didn't do much to change investor sentiment. If anything, generous pandemic stimulus may have made the speculative mania even worse. It seems that many people used some of their government cash to trade meme stocks , cryptocurrencies and other risky investments. But shares of companies like GameStop ( GME ) and AMC ( AMC ) as well as bitcoin and other cryptos have been crushed in 2022. The pandemic-era rally is now a distant memory for some stocks The CNN Business Fear & Greed Index , which looks at seven measures of market sentiment, has been showing signs of … [Read more...] about Stocks could fall a lot further
