Mikaela Shiffrin wins slalom, moves within 1 win of Ingemar Stenmark’s World Cup record
SPINDLERUV MLYN, Czech Republic — Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated with a shoulder wiggle and a bright smile Saturday after dominating a slalom and moving within one victory of the 34-year-old World Cup record of 86 wins. The American showed no signs of pressure, a day before another slalom in which she could match the best mark set by Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark in the 1980s. “I don’t feel a lot of pressure to get this record. Now, I am so close that it’s like just take a breath and enjoy the moments we are in now,” Shiffrin said. She had shared the women’s record of 82 wins with former teammate Lindsey Vonn before triumphing at back-to-back giant slaloms in Italy this week and adding career win 85 on Saturday. “I’m always trying to think about everything else except these numbers, because they just make me nervous. And I don’t have a reason to be nervous if I achieve 86 or 87,” Shiffrin said. “But, for sure, if everybody asks, then I feel pressure to do it and then I don’t … [Read more...] about Mikaela Shiffrin wins slalom, moves within 1 win of Ingemar Stenmark’s World Cup record

‘All of Us Are Dead’ Remains Netflix’s Most Damning Success
Click here to read the full article. Even before Hyosan High becomes ground zero for the world’s zombie outbreak in All of Us Are Dead , its teen inhabitants are struggling to survive. Severe bullying, threats of suicide, wealth inequality and a suffocating pressure to succeed make Hyosan High — and Korean society — a kind of hell . “In some countries, they’re more sad when adults die than when kids die. And in other countries they are sadder when kids die. Which do you think our country is?” asks one All of Us Are Dead teen during a down moment between zombie attacks. Yeah, this show is bleak — but, looking around at the state of our world, why wouldn’t it be? All of Us Are Dead is also very popular. A year after its debut, the Korean-language series sits at number 11 on Netflix ’s list of most-watched TV shows . The K-drama’s global success no doubt has something to do with the popularity of the zombie genre, but it also seems tied to its central theme: the … [Read more...] about ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Remains Netflix’s Most Damning Success
I’m a damp expert – how to tell if your windows are covered in condensation or if it’s something else entirely
A DAMP EXPERT has taken to Facebook to share how to tell the difference between condensation and damp - and how to effectively deal with both. Jayne Walford shared her advice in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group - and revealed that some people may be misdiagnosing the problems inside their homes. She wrote: “Dampness, condensation and mould growth in dwellings is a common problem, especially in older buildings. “Condensation will occur when water vapour in the air meets a cold surface and water vapour then becomes liquid. “The more moisture is produced, the slower that this is removed by ventilation and the colder the surfaces, the more likely that condensation will happen. “Water on surfaces will encourage moulds to grow. Kentucky governor flexes incumbency power in reelection bid
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Playing up the advantages of incumbency he hopes to ride to reelectio n, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear recently touted the state's newest round of job-creation successes, honored a retiring police officer and highlighted recovery assistance for a flood-stricken region. The Democratic governor packed all three feel-good developments into his most recent news conference Thursday. In his regular media events — and at frequent appearances across the Bluegrass State — Beshear has nurtured his own upbeat political brand. He's known simply as “Andy” across a state that has mostly turned against his political party and become a Republican stronghold. “I think people see that this administration isn’t trying to pull Kentucky to the right or left, but just to move it forward,” Beshear said when asked Thursday about a fresh round of good polling news more than nine months before the November general election. A dozen Republicans are competing for a shot at trying to … [Read more...] about Kentucky governor flexes incumbency power in reelection bid
FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried, DOJ tussle over his communications
Federal prosecutors are trying to prohibit FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried from privately contacting current and former employees of the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange to prevent potential witness tampering in a criminal case accusing him of bilking investors and customers. The request, made in a letter filed late Friday by U.S. Justice Department lawyers, prompted an indignant response from Bankman-Fried's lawyer, who accused prosecutors of twisting the facts to cast the FTX founder in a sinister light ahead of his trial scheduled later this year. The testy exchange prompted U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in New York to issue a Saturday order that included admonishment for the opposing lawyers in the case to refrain from “pejorative characterizations" of each other's actions and motives. Bankman-Fried, 30, has been under confinement at his parents' home in Palo Alto, California, since pleading not guilty earlier this month to charges against him. He is accused of diverting … [Read more...] about FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried, DOJ tussle over his communications
