It cannot be good for democracy that so much power is vested in the police
NOT long ago, Labour accused Boris Johnson of having a “big problem with women in public life”. Now, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and his deputy Angela Rayner face their own nightmare involving women in high places. Top cops Jane Connors and Jo Farrell, and Downing Street civil servant Sue Gray , could create a political earthquake toppling the Labour leadership — but also the Prime Minister . As Met Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Connors, and Durham Police Chief Constable Farrell continue investigating if Starmer, Rayner and Johnson broke lockdown laws, and Downing Street’s Second Permanent Secretary Sue Gray prepares to release her report into partying in No10 during the pandemic , the three politicians wait. What a mortifying mess for sanctimonious Sir Keir to find himself in, after all his moralizing about public probity. He has spent the entire year preaching about trust in politics and the importance of politicians doing the right thing when they … [Read more...] about It cannot be good for democracy that so much power is vested in the police

‘Doctor Strange 2’ keeps hold on top spot in 2nd weekend
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” stayed on top of the box office charts during its second weekend in theaters, earning an additional $61 million from North American theaters, according to studio estimates on Sunday. With $688 million in global grosses, it’s already one of the highest grossing films of the pandemic and the second biggest of 2022. But a 67% fall is also a steep drop — even for reliably frontloaded superhero films. Still, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” slid 68% in weekend two. Released by the Walt Disney Co., “ Doctor Strange 2 ” benefitted from being the first Marvel movie to follow “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” in which Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer played a pivotal role. Directed by Sam Raimi, “Doctor Strange 2” also builds upon the popular Disney+ series “Wandavision” and contains a number of cameos that fans didn’t want to be spoiled.
