NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! Amber Heard asked a judge Friday to toss the verdict against her – arguing that the $10.35 million judgment in favor of Johnny Depp wasn't supported by the evidence presented during the sensational six-week trial. In a 43-page motion, Heard's lawyers Elaine Bredehoft and Ben Rottenborn argued that Judge Penney Azcarate should throw out the judgment and dismiss the complaint in Fairfax County District Court in Virginia . "The verdict is excessive as a matter of law in light of the evidence and law, and should be set aside," they wrote. A jury awarded Depp a $10.35 million finding that his 36-year-old ex-wife had defamed him and caused him to lose business opportunities by penning a 2018 op-ed in the … [Read more...] about Amber Heard asks court to toss $10M verdict in Johnny Depp defamation case

July 4, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

A Rottweiler sentenced to death after it attacked and killed a chihuahua has now been allowed to live. Chip the six-year-old rescue pet was alone and without a collar when he attacked the small dog being walked by its owners in the South Moor area of Stanley, County Durham on October 24 2021. The snarling animal took Toby the chihuahua in its mouth and shook it from side to side as the couple desperately tried to free their pet, Durham County Court heard. Although he feared being attacked himself, Toby's male owner managed to wrestle the chihuahua free from Chip after shouting loudly at it, but sadly he did not survive. Chip’s owner Derek Wilkinson, 47, later told police that the Rottweiler was not socialised and reacted badly to other dogs . Chip was initially sentenced to death after killing Toby (stock image) ( Image: Getty Images) He said he stayed out the previous night and when he came back that morning discovered Chip was missing. Mum suffers stroke but doctor ‘tells her to get a manicure after missing signs’

July 4, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

A young mum was repeatedly turned away by GPs and hospital doctors who missed the fact she had suffered a stroke, and was even told to get a manicure. Kerri-Ann Wool, 34, was told by multiple doctors she was suffering from migraines, tension headaches and even postnatal depression after she experienced a sudden severe headache, distorted vision and dizziness which would not go away. A&E doctors sent her home with paracetamol, while one GP prescribed antidepressants and told her to "go to get her nails done to cheer herself up". Even after an MRI scan revealed the stroke in her cerebellum - the part of the brain which controls balance - a consultant reading the report missed it. It meant the mum-of-three only discovered she'd had a stroke when she requested her own medical records a year later. She found the diagnosis was written down in her MRI results but had not been read by any of the doctors treating her. Kerri-Ann underwent surgery in July 2021 to close the … [Read more...] about Mum suffers stroke but doctor ‘tells her to get a manicure after missing signs’

Spain could bring back Covid rules on face masks ahead of summer holidays

July 4, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Brits heading on Spain holidays could end up facing Covid rules such as compulsory face masks, as the holiday hotspot considers putting measures back in place due to its rising coronavirus case numbers. Popular locations including the Canary Islands and Costa del Sol have said they need to leave the possibility of mandatory face masks in indoor spaces on the table. However, at the moment they are simply advising people to be cautious and wear a mask inside by choice. So far, the Spanish government has ruled out the reintroduction of the indoor masks rule which was lifted in April for bars, shops and restaurants but not on public transport. Head of the epidemiology section of the general directorate of public health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Amós García Rojas said he couldn't rule out demanding mask indoors again “to protect the vulnerable”. McDonald’s warning as drivers face £200 fine & 6 points on their licence for common mistake at drive-thru

July 4, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

MCDONALD's customers are being warned over a common drive-thru mistake which carries a penalty of a £200 fine and six licence points. Motorists stopping at a McDonald's or KFC drive-thru for a takeaway must make sure they bring cash or a card instead of relying on Apple Pay. That's because the app is installed on a phone - which can't be used at all by a driver when the engine is running. According to new Highway Code rules brought in last month, drivers can't even tap their phones while behind the wheel. It's something many motorists wouldn't even think about. One in ten Brits are now estimated to use their phone to pay for items at the drive-thru or petrol stations.
