Cringeing self-pity is added to lying, lawbreaking, incompetence, venality and indecency on Boris Johnson’s charge sheet. A sleazy Prime Minister believing voters hearing about his bad behaviour is the problem rather than the terrible conduct itself From Covid parties and jobs for his wife to the cost of living crisis and an ailing NHS, Johnson proves himself unfit for the most important office in the land. Wife Carrie may soon need to return the favour and try to find him a nice little earner because odds are shortening on the loser surviving until the next general election. Talk of a second and third election victory, remaining PM until the mid-2030s, are fantasy from a serial liar. Red wall and blue wall, Yorkshire and Devon, North and South giving the Conservatives the order of the boot in Wakefield and Tiverton last week is the writing on the wall for many Tory MPs who are scrambling to save their own seats. Covid cases have jumped by a third in Britain over the past week, with as many as one in 20 people now infected in parts of the country worst hit by the resurgence. Office of National Statistics (ONS) analysts estimate nearly 2.3million people in the UK had the virus on June 24 — up from roughly 1.7million in the previous week. Hospital admissions have also trebled in the last month, piling pressure on an already overwhelmed NHS. Though only a fraction of patients are primarily ill with the disease. Left-leaning experts have already demanded a return of mask-wearing and urged Britons to meet outside because of the uptick, driven by Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5. Some NHS hospitals have already brought back their own rules on coverings. But Boris Johnson today insisted there were no plans to reintroduce curbs 'at the moment'. The Prime Minister did, however, leave the door open to future measures by refusing to definitively rule out the return of lockdowns. … [Read more...] about Britain’s Covid cases jump by a THIRD in a week: Up to one in 18 people are infected in worst-hit areas… so is YOUR area a hotspot?

To celebrate a decade of the popular gameshow, ITV aired its first ever episode again. And with Ben hosting the show from the get-go, he welcomed four contestants onto the show and to their podiums. Burning Man meets the Tour de France: California’s weirdest race returns to Arcata
On a sunny and wind-whipped Memorial Day, for the hundreds of spectators standing on the western shores of the Eel River beneath Fernbridge, some 250 miles north of San Francisco, a truly unusual spectacle is about to unfold. Giant sculptures will be crossing the river. The first to enter the drink is Humpbacks of Notre Dame, a top-heavy, climate-change-inspired artwork featuring fabric-wrapped foam whales and French cathedrals. It is followed by an oversized representation of a lemon and a colossal ode to a can of tuna. A swarm of gargantuan bumblebees. A praying mantis riding atop an all-female hair band. An imitation hot rod full of Abraham Lincolns. Welcome to the Kinetic Grand Championship, a three-day race of human-powered sculptures over 50 miles of land, sand, mud and water. This is where Burning Man meets the Tour de France. The competition kicks off in the central plaza of bohemian college town Arcata, and from there, the sculptures cruise over city streets, up and … [Read more...] about Burning Man meets the Tour de France: California’s weirdest race returns to Arcata
