A review of British Airways Club World Business Class The British Airways Club World (Business Class) cabin is one I know very well and which, in my opinion, delivers exactly what I want on a regular basis – great service, food and drink (add extra chocolates to that) and comfort. Here is how a recent flight from London Heathrow to New York JFK went. A good travel experience does not begin when you arrive at your destination. For me, it is pretty clear – it all starts at the airport. Long-haul flights for me, are very special moments – it is code for ‘me’ time: no interruptions, time to catch up on movies and TV, bubbles and of course, continuing to believe that ‘there are no calories up in the air’, especially when it refers to chocolate. Don’t ask. Check-in The BA First Check-In area at LHR Checking in at London Heathrow’s terminal 5 is always a breeze. I call this one of my ‘spiritual places’ (it is where many travel … [Read more...] about A review of British Airways Club World Business Class

How Should You Use the Three Free FastPasses that You Get Each Day? Guests of Walt Disney World Parks are currently given daily access to three free FastPasses (technically called the FastPass+) that they can use in the Park of their choice (they must all be used in the same park). These are virtual/digital passes that allow you to enter a faster line at most of Disney’s most popular rides and attractions. The FastPass+ system is a great innovation and the current version works better than I thought it was going to work when they switched to it a few years ago (from the paper FastPass system that preceded it). First-time visitors are sometimes confused about FastPasses and I am often asked what’s the best strategy for using your daily allotment of three FastPass+ digital passes. For the record, you can get additional passes after you have used up your first three (and some guests can buy extra passes), but that is another post altogether. Other than making sure that you … [Read more...] about What’s the Best Strategy for Using Your Walt Disney World FastPass+?
How did you develop the idea for the 11Eleven Project?I had the idea for the 11Eleven Project ten years ago. I was living in Western Australia at the time. I went with a friend to see a double film screening at Luna Cinemas where I saw Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi back to back. These two films are very thought provoking. I recall falling into a meditative state, my mind just started running through ideas spurred on by the images I saw on screen. I remember leaving the cinema halfway through the film, abandoning my friend as I had an overwhelming surge to write; I grabbed some scrap paper and wrote down the concept for the 11Eleven Project. I kept thinking about “A Day In The Life Of The World” – what if the world story was actually told by the people of earth? What if humanity contributed their voices, images and sounds to the global narrative? Now 2001 was prior to the world of YouTube, Google and iPhones. The idea was ready, but the technology didn’t exist. … [Read more...] about Our World in One Day: Danielle Lauren on the 11Eleven Project
The single most frequently asked question I get about my travels concerns the cost of budgeting for a solo round the world trip. While understanding how I pay for it all tops the list of questions, the actual cost of traveling for a year around the world is the big unknown. I had no idea how much my RTW trip would cost when I left — some people reported around $10,000 (which seemed absurdly low) while others spent upwards of $40K to travel a bit more luxuriously. So I thought of it as a grand adventure. How much will it cost, and how long can I keep going with my freelance income?Over that year, I tracked every single dollar I spent on the road.My full tally is complete and I traveled around the world for for 328 days (11 months) through 15 countries and tracked what I spent, what each and every country cost, and where I could have done better.Just want the cold hard figures? Navigate the Google spreadsheet by the countries listed at the bottom of my full RTW Travel Budget. How … [Read more...] about A Little RTW Budget… How Much Does it Cost to Travel the World for a Year? The initial plan for this post was to research all of the different travel insurance options out on the market for budget backpackers and round the world travelers. And I did all of the research. It took me ages. And I had planned to compare and contrast key travel insurance companies. Which I do below. But my overall conclusion is that World Nomads is a fantastic travel insurance for budget and round the world travel. After sussing out all of the negative and positive reviews on other backpacking and travel sites, it’s pretty clear that the while every single insurance company has some negative reviews, there are many success stories for World Nomads and their support staff. That said, different trips call for different travel needs, so below I’ll break down why I picked World Nomads for my one-year RTW, but also why I have used IMG patriot for some trips as well — I’ll explain which type of trip worked for each of the different insurance … [Read more...] about A Little Coverage… Review of Travel Insurance Options: IMG Patriot, World Nomads, & Others
