Home Sec Suella Braverman calls for top Labour MPs to apologise after they campaigned to keep foreign thugs in Britain
SUELLA Braverman today called on Sir Keir Starmer and his top team to apologise after they campaigned to keep foreign thugs in Britain. The Home Secretary said Labour MPs should "hang their heads in shame" after criminals they argued against deporting went on to commit MORE heinous crimes. A furious Ms Braverman told the Commons: "The Labour Party are much more interested in writing letter campaigns to stop the Home Office from deporting serious foreign national offenders. "They’re much more interested in the rights of criminals rather than the rights and entitlements of the law abiding majority. "I agree, they really should be apologising for the devastating action." Last week, after delivering a speech on crime, the Labour Leader refused to apologise for signing a letter calling for 50 dangerous offenders not to be deported on a flight to Jamaica . Instead, a remorseless Sir Keir boasted: "I stand proudly by my record." Sheriff: Man who fled traffic stop shoots officer in Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A man who sped away from a traffic stop in Florida last week shot and critically wounded a sheriff's officer before killing himself following a standoff at his home, officials said. The shooting early Sunday morning left Officer Malik Daricaud, 25, in “tenuous condition” and “fighting for his life,” Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said during a news conference. When no one answered the door at Tyliko Maduro's home, the officers contacted the 32-year-old man's mother, Waters said, describing the body cam footage. She agreed to come over, and approached the front door with one officer, while another was stationed around the corner of the house and Daricaud stayed a few feet back. She knocked a couple of times and yelled, “hello,” before unlocking and pushing open the door. A dog came out the door and a volley of shots rang out. Daricaud fell backwards and collapsed onto the ground, Waters said. The other officers and Maduro's mother were not injured, … [Read more...] about Sheriff: Man who fled traffic stop shoots officer in Florida
‘I’m first black woman to visit every country – my scariest moment was right at home’
A record breaking global traveller who has visited every country in the world had her hairiest moment in her home nation. Jessica Nabongo made history when she became the first black woman to travel to every country in the world (although that title is in slight contention thanks to fellow adventurer Woni Spotts' claim ). The Ugandan American arrived in the Seychelles flanked by dozens of her friends and family to make it all 195 United Nations recognised countries visited in 2019. Four years on and the Detroit native has turned her talents to hosting season one of WhatsApp’s Crossing Cultures, a series that explores how diasporic communities around the world create a home away from home while maintaining connections to their culture. In the show she goes off the beaten track in a number of countries in a bid to find less often visited communities and explore how they've built a new home. THE heart-stopping moment a heroic woman pulls a schoolgirl away from a pack of "pitbull" dogs has been caught on camera. The woman, believed to be the girl's sister, grabbed the dogs after she was swarmed by the animals in Carrington, Greater Manchester , on Sunday afternoon. In footage The Sun Online has seen but decided not to show a woman is on her hands and knees wrestling with the dogs to save the child, who is thought to be six years old. The girl was rushed to hospital around 2.40pm, but is now in a stable condition, cops confirmed. Four "pitbulls" charged as the girl played with her pals, according to a neighbour. Nearly two-thirds of UK workers would prefer a four-day week from the office, survey of 12,000 UK staff reveals
Almost two-thirds of workers would prefer working a four-day week, a recent poll has found. A survey of 12,000 people, carried out by employment firm Hays found that nearly two in three workers would favour the switch to an office-based four-day week. One in three employers said they would be more likely to accommodate the switch if staff spent all four days on-site. Just under two in three workers said they would consider switching jobs if another company offered a shorter working week. This has increased from a little over 50% compared to a similar poll that was recorded last year. Almost two-thirds of workers would prefer working a four-day week, according to the study The findings follow a recent trial where 61 UK companies reduced their employees' working hours by 20 per cent , with no changes made to their salary. This trial saw around 2,900 employees work a four-day week for six months from June 2022. Surveys found that 39 per cent of staff felt less … [Read more...] about Nearly two-thirds of UK workers would prefer a four-day week from the office, survey of 12,000 UK staff reveals
Just one in five voters thinks Rwanda plan will actually ‘stop the boats’
Just one in five voters believes the Tories’ plan to deport Channel migrants to Rwanda will stop desperate refugees clambering in small boats to come to Britain. An exclusive Redfield & Wilton Strategies study for the Mirror found only 22% of 1,500 voters quizzed online think the controversial policy will be a deterrent. Half of those questioned said it would not. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Suella Braverman have repeatedly claimed that deporting boat migrants to the African nation will deter others from attempting the perilous journey across the Strait of Dover - the world’s busiest shipping lane. Visiting a Home Office joint control centre in Dover, Kent, this month, the PM spoke with staff about wanting to create a “deterrent effect” for people planning the journey. Speaking on a trip to Rwandan capital Kigali with handpicked journalists last weekend, Mrs Braverman claimed: “The UK-Rwanda Migration and Economic Development Partnership is a … [Read more...] about Just one in five voters thinks Rwanda plan will actually ‘stop the boats’
