Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CNN) — Once you let the meaning of the word simmer in your mind for a while, you'll realize Indian restaurant Nadodi could have no better name. A word that translates to "nomad" in a couple of South Indian languages, it harks to the journey the people of that region took to faraway lands, such as Malaysia, where this eatery is located. For whatever reason, though, Indian cuisine remains tricky. Most of the time it’s treated as fast food, the result all too often meaning tough meat served in oily, overly salty gravy, with stale spices and fatally, very little heat. It might be surprising then that Florence – a city that is often held up as the epitome of Italy’s culinary insularity – is in fact home to some of the country’s best curry houses. Pepper chicken masala, paneer butter masala and coconut rice at Indian Palace. Photo: Indian Palace/Facebook As those familiar with the Renaissance capital will know, there has been some polemic in recent years about protectionism in the historic centre, with Mayor Dario Nardella pledging to clamp down on "low quality" shops and restaurants in the … [Read more...] about Good curry in Italy? Standing atop one of the rainforest covered hills, you might believe, when looking out at the undulating, emerald gem that stands before you, that you’ve stumbled upon heaven. Made up of 99 islands off the west coast of Malaysia, Langkawi is the tropical destination the western world forgot. Langkawi, when translated, means ‘the land of one’s wishes’ – something that many of its visitors would agree upon after spending an idyllic few days there. Thanks to its still relatively low profile, it’s retained its rustic charm, wild landscapes and relaxed atmosphere whilst still catering generously to visitors. Luscious paddy fields, verdant mangroves and white sand beaches make up the landscape of the main island, where many of the luxury hotels and resorts. This isn’t your typical Asian paradise resort, though. … [Read more...] about This is Malaysia’s hidden gem
