Health officials in North Carolina say more than a dozen people may have been exposed to hepatitis A on a recent flight.News outlets report the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it was notified on Oct. 1 that a flight attendant had a confirmed case.The Mecklenburg County Health Department says it contacted 18 Charlotte-area passengers who were on the American Airlines flight Sept. 21 from San Francisco to Charlotte. Spokeswoman Rebecca Carter says those passengers have since been vaccinated.American Airlines released a statement saying it’s in close contact with the CDC and public health officials and will coordinate with them on any required health and safety related measures. Alitalia pilots and flight attendants are preparing to strike on Wednesday, October 9th, but the disruption is expected to start from Tuesday evening and last into Thursday morning. The California Court of Appeal recently clarified the wage rights of the thousands of personal attendants working in California households.The FactsOn April 1, 2014, Lea Liday quit her job as the live-in caregiver for the two autistic sons of Drs. Peter Sim and Loraine Diego. Liday received a monthly salary of $3,000. There was no agreement about how many hours that salary covered or on the hourly rate the salary contemplated.Liday worked around-the-clock seven days a week, except for the six hours each weekday when the boys were in school. Liday slept in the severely autistic older boy’s room to be available when his sleeping irregularities caused him to wake up at night. She took a total of 14 weekends off from April 1, 2010 through December 31, 2013. Liday claimed her salary did not compensate her for all the hours she worked.
