A baby born with two heads, three arms and two hearts has left doctors stunned in India . Shaheen Khan and her husband Sohail were expecting two fully formed twins, but were shocked when she gave birth to what appeared to be a baby with two heads on March 28 in Ratlam, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The condition is known as dicephalic parapagus - where two infants are joined by one torso - and often results in a stillbirth. But the miracle conjoined twins have so far survived and have been admitted to a hospital in the nearby city of Indore to be monitored by doctors. Shaheen remains in the district hospital in Ratlam. Rioting police rebels in Haiti seize Port-au-Prince streets in protest at gang killings of at least 10 officers
Rebel police officers have rioted on the streets of Haiti's capital by blockading roads with burning tyres and firing guns into the air in protest at the killing of colleagues by criminal gangs. Demonstrators also attacked the official residence of the prime minister, Ariel Henry, in Port-au-Prince before heading to the airport as he arrived back from a trip to Argentina, trapping him for a time. The violence flared in Haiti after at least 10 officers were murdered in the last week by gangs. A video has been circulated showing the naked and bloodied bodies of six of the victims, with their guns lying on their chests. The gang who killed them, known as Gan Grif, still has their remains, according to police. The murders are the latest example of escalating violence in the Caribbean nation, which has been gripped by gang wars and political chaos following the 2021 assassination of president Jovenel Moise . His unelected successor has called on the United … [Read more...] about Rioting police rebels in Haiti seize Port-au-Prince streets in protest at gang killings of at least 10 officers
This half-empty office tower could help transform downtown San Francisco
Marc Benioff is the rare tech mogul who appreciates hometown pride and physical space. The CEO and co-founder of Salesforce has donated $110 million to public schools in San Francisco and Oakland through the giant firm’s foundation. He led a successful 2018 ballot drive to combat homelessness by taxing corporations like his homegrown tech behemoth. Now I’d like to see Benioff explore ways to make San Francisco’s sagging Financial District into a robust mixed-use neighborhood — starting with Salesforce West, the 43-story office tower that Salesforce owns at 50 Fremont St., a half-empty monolith from early 1985 that could become a test lab for turning old towers into new strongholds of urban life. This may sound presumptuous, but Benioff hasn’t been shy in airing his concerns about the commercial heart of the city where he was born, and where his company occupies three towers at Fremont and Mission streets. “We’ve a very homogeneous downtown. You have to rebalance,” Benioff … [Read more...] about This half-empty office tower could help transform downtown San Francisco
Colorado woman struck by train while trapped in police cruiser sues department, officers
A woman who was struck by a train while trapped in the back of a Colorado police cruiser is suing the department alleging its officers failed to keep her safe. Yareni Rios-Gonzalez filed the lawsuit Thursday in Weld County District Court against three officers and the Platteville Police Department for “failing to protect Plaintiff from being hit by a freight train while in custody.” Rios-Gonzalez suffered broken ribs, a broken arm and a broken sternum, as well as a head injury, in the Sept. 16 incident. That night, multiple officers responded to a report of a road rage incident involving a firearm in Fort Lupton. Platteville police Sgt. Pablo Vazquez stopped Rios-Gonzalez’s car just past a set of railroad tracks and parked his patrol vehicle on the crossing. The officers then handcuffed the 20-year-old and locked her in the back seat of the patrol vehicle on the tracks. The train struck the parked vehicle, launching it nearly a half mile off the track. The train weighed … [Read more...] about Colorado woman struck by train while trapped in police cruiser sues department, officers
