Dave Birkett Detroit Free Press Published 7:19 PM EST Nov 11, 2018 Free Press sports writer Dave Birkett grades the Detroit Lions' positions from Sunday's 34-22 loss to the Chicago Bears: Quarterback Matthew Stafford is getting shell-shocked. Stafford had another sub-par game Sunday as he completed just 25 of 42 passes for 274 yards. He threw two interceptions, though one came on a fourth-down play that was essentially a punt, and he took another six sacks. After being sacked 16 times in the last two games, Stafford understandably appears to be feeling pressure early at times and underthrowing his receivers at others. He did run for a first down on a fourth-and-2 in the second half, when his pump fake got a blitzing Bryce Callahan to leave his feet, but there wasn’t a whole lot of positive to take from the day. Grade: D Running backs Kerryon Johnson didn’t have a huge day statistically for the Lions, but he was one of the few bright spots as he scored rushing … [Read more...] about Detroit Lions grades: Matt Patricia was so bad he gets a ‘G’

opinion Henry Payne The Detroit News Published 11:15 PM EST Nov 7, 2018 At the same time Audi announced this summer it was ditching the manual transmission for its A4 sports sedan, Genesis said its G70 competitor would not only have a manual variant — but that it would be offered as an upscale Sport version unto itself. That tells you a lot about Hyundai’s aggressive new luxury brand. This Seoul-produced entry-level sedan has soul. The G70 is rightly baselined to the compact segment icon, the BMW 3-series. Stealing away BMW M-class engineering guru Albert Biermann and Lamborghini design director Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis put the G70 on its own rear-wheel drive platform and trained it in the German makers’ Nürburgring racetrack backyard. But BMW, Audi and Mercedes are no longer the segment performance leaders. That honor now goes to the terrific Cadillac ATS, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Tesla Model 3 sedans. Indeed, the irony of the … [Read more...] about Payne: Genesis G-pulling G70 is a bargain athlete

Before opening her flagship in 1998, Lynch had cooked at the likes of Olives and Galleria Italiana and been named one of Food & Wine magazine’s best new chefs. But it was with No. 9 Park that she came into her own. She is part of a cadre of chefs who put Boston dining on the map: Jody Adams, Todd English, Gordon Hamersley, Lydia Shire, Jasper White. And her DNA is visible in some of the city’s most-exciting restaurants, from Bar Mezzana to Chickadee to Haley Henry and Nathalie, where the majority of staff members have at some point called her boss. It is, perhaps, no coincidence that two of Boston’s greatest culinary loves … [Read more...] about Barbara Lynch has influenced Boston dining for 20 years. I ate at all of her restaurants to find out how they are today.
