Many national food conglomerates in the U.S. tout stories of humble beginnings. Shipley Do-Nuts , known here simply as Shipley's, is a Houston success story that went from mom-and-pop to ubiquitous chain across the American South. Here's how it started, and how it's going. How it started As the saying goes: "Behind every great man is a great woman." In the case of Lawrence Shipley, Sr., the woman was his wife Lillie, whose family owned a doughnut shop in Dallas, where he honed his leavened fried dough chops. My husband pressured me to get a puppy and it’s destroying my marriage – how do I tell him it’s me or the dog?
A mother-of-two has revealed her marriage has been left on the brink of collapse after her husband got a dog who has 'destroyed' their home. The British woman took to Mumsnet to explain how her husband had nagged her for years about welcoming a pet hound into their home, and around 10 months ago she reluctantly relented. In a lengthy and emotional post on the forum, the mother sought help with the 'impossible situation' and vented her frustrations about the 'Armageddon' she's facing in her own home. Many blamed the husband for 'coercing' her into getting the pet, and encouraged her to split from her partner. I wasn’t surprised when I was assigned to go to the capitol and cover the event, but I was nervous. For one, I had never covered a protest before. But I had also been closely watching the events in Minneapolis that week as protestors and police clashed violently, and I worried about COVID-19, a very new disease the world knew very little about. The first time I left my house after Colorado’s stay-at-home order was to cover this protest, the genesis of what turned out to be months’ worth of demonstrations. And what I saw that night – the incessant streams of … [Read more...] about New binge-worthy podcast exposes FBI’s role in Denver’s racial justice protests | Opinion

The Boylan family was in a party of nine adults and five children from Boulder, including Evan’s 10-year-old sister, Eva.
