My Easy Love for Bremen, Germany in 5 Moments
I recently had the great opportunity to revisit one of my favorite cities in Germany, and one that is perennially underrated, Bremen. Perhaps best known for their link to the famous fairy tale the Town Musicians of Bremen, over two visits I’ve learned that there are many other reasons to love spending time in this remarkable city. Bremen has a very unique personality, one that is completely unlike any other city I’ve visited and I confess that I have absolutely fallen under its spell. Best when combined with a longer trip exploring Northern Germany, today I want to share a few reasons why spending two or three days visiting Bremen should absolutely be near the top of your travel to-do list. Man accused of letting slave girl die extradited to Germany
The Iraqi husband of a German woman who is being tried on charges that the couple allowed a 5-year-old Yazidi girl they kept as a slave to die of thirst in the hot sun has been extradited from Greece to Germany.Federal prosecutors said that the man, identified only as Taha A.J. in line with German privacy rules, arrived at Frankfurt Airport Wednesday.They said Friday he joined the Islamic State group in 2013 and bought the girl and her mother as slaves in 2015. He and his wife, German convert Jennifer W., allegedly left the girl chained outdoors at their home in Iraq as a punishment and let her die of thirst.Jennifer W. went on trial in April. Stolen truck crashes into cars in Germany, 9 hurt
Police are investigating why a man drove a stolen truck into a line of cars in a western German town, leaving nine people slightly injured. The truck drove into a line of eight cars in Limburg late Monday afternoon, pushing the vehicles into each other. Police said seven people were taken to hospitals and the driver also was slightly injured. He was detained. The truck was towed away on Tuesday morning and was being examined by police. Police: Some believed killed in shooting in eastern Germany
Police in the eastern German city of Halle say people are believed to have been killed in what local media reported was a shooting. A police tweet Wednesday gave no information on the nature of their deployment in the city but said that initial information is that “people were killed.” They didn’t give a number. They also urged people to stay at home.
