A World War II-era bomber plane, owned by a Stowe, Mass. non-profit organization, crashed at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut Wednesday morning, officials said. The Federal Aviation Administration tweeted that the vintage Boeing B-17 crashed at the end of Runway 6 while attempting to land at the airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., at 10 a.m. Wednesday. “It is a civilian registered aircraft, not flown by the military,” FAA officials said. “Local officials will release information about the people aboard. Officials have closed Bradley International Airport, and the FAA has put in a ground stop for flights that are destined for the airport.” Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the FAA, said the National Transportation Safety Board is in charge of the investigation. Authorities say one person died when a small plane crashed and caught fire in a field near a Southern California airport.Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Brian McGrath says crews responded around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a plane down near Camarillo airport.McGrath says firefighters found the aircraft engulfed in flames and quickly extinguished the blaze. A plane crash turned into a traffic crash when a small aircraft having engine trouble made an emergency landing on an Ohio roadway and rear-ended a car near an intersection.The two pilots aboard the plane and the driver in the BMW they hit weren’t seriously hurt in the Thursday afternoon crash. It happened a couple miles from an airport just south of Dayton.State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Kramer says the 1979 Piper fixed-wing, single-engine plane had trouble as it was returning to the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. Hungarian officials have finished their investigation of a boat crash on the Danube River in which 28 people died, most of them South Korean tourists.Prosecutors said Thursday they would review the gathered information before deciding how to proceed with the case.A sightseeing boat collided with a larger cruise ship on the river and sank May 29, killing 26 South Korean tourists and two Hungarian crew members.Just seven tourists survived and the remains of a South Korean woman are missing. Motorcyclist, 19, dies after solo crash into pole near Julian
A 19-year-old Julian man died Wednesday evening after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a pole off state Route 78, authorities said.Riding a 2007 Yamaha R6, the teen was headed west “at a high rate of speed” on SR-78 west of Pine Hills Road when he lost control of the motorcycle about 5:15 p.m., California Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Christy said.“As the rider entered a curve in the roadway, he was unable to safely negotiate the curve and lost control of the motorcycle,” Christy said in a statement. “Both the rider and motorcycle traveled off of the roadway and (struck) a utility pole on the north shoulder.”Medics took the gravely injured teen from the scene in an ambulance to Santa Ysabel, where they were planning to transfer him to an air ambulance and fly him to a hospital, Christy said.
