Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) , engineers developed a new liver tissue model to help reveal the stages of liver regeneration in hopes to help those individuals with liver disease , according to a new study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers said by finding an effective way to stimulate the liver to regenerate on its own, some liver transplants could potentially be avoided and it may help a donated liver grow after being transplanted, according to a media release from MIT. Liver experts told Fox News that most patients who need liver transplants are often those diagnosed with chronic diseases such as viral hepatitis, primary biliary Cholangitis (PBC), cancer or fatty liver disease. New York (CNN) There appears to be no end of trouble in sight for flyers this week -- a chaotic July Fourth weekend has spawned more than 1,100 cancellations since Friday as airlines grapple with staffing shortages and poor weather amid an abundance of passengers. More than 7,800 US flights were delayed Friday -- including 45% of JetBlue's operations and almost a third of United, American Airlines and Southwest's operations. Delta also saw a quarter of its operations delayed. Air travelers face 'operational challenges' this weekend Thunderstorms in the Northeast Friday afternoon were to blame for causing delays of an hour or more at some of the region's major airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's flight delay map .
