WHEN you're in debt, clearing it can seem impossible - but Rachel managed to wipe hers and buy her first home in just two years. Office manager Rachel Elliott was struggling after racking up £20,000 of debt three years ago. She had two credit card debts, two overdrafts, a loan for her car and car finance debts. The 37-year-old said that as a "proud person", it was hard to admit that homeownership was a pipe-dream unless she made a drastic change. But after facing up to the amount of money she owed, Rachel and her partner Rebecca, 27, who works in a pharmacy, sat down together in March 2020 to figure out how to clear it with the aim of buying their first home together. Petrol prices FALL but should be even lower as retailers charge 10p per litre more than normal
PETROL prices plummeted by nearly 7p a litre last month - the sixth biggest monthly drop since 2000. But drivers should have seen a further 10p reduction if retailers squashed their margins, according to RAC Fuel Watch. The price of petrol fell from 169.58p a litre to 162.89p a litre in September - saving drivers £2.68 on an average full tank. Since unleaded peaked on July 3 at 191.53p, almost 29p has come off a litre leading to a saving of nearly £16 on a tank. Diesel prices also dropped from 183.74p a litre to 180.16 in the same period. This is 19p cheaper than its all-time high price of 199.09p back on June 25 - meaning that the cost of a tank has fallen by £10 on average.
