The troupe from Thailand will present their traditional musical instruments. — Photo courtesy of the Department of Performing Arts HÀ NỘI — Performance art troupes from across ASEAN will gather at the ASEAN Music Festival 2019 on May 25-31 in Hải Phòng City. More than 160 artists from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines will perform, alongside four Vietnamese troupes representing different regions of the country. The event aims to boost the friendship in culture and arts between Việt Nam and regional countries. It’s also a chance for Vietnamese artists to introduce the country's unique musical values to the world and to meet and learn from their regional peers. Performances will include dancing, choir singing, orchestras and singing in both traditional and contemporary styles. Its resulting legacy has been mixed — from slickly produced multiday affairs to unmitigated disasters, like the Fyre Festival — but the wildfire-spread of festivals since has led to an increasing number of exciting, smaller-scale events organized each year. These eight U.S.-based music festivals are notable for their stunning settings, extracurricular programming and highly curated, alternative lineups. Marfa Myths Marfa Myths is a collaboration between Ballroom Marfa, a non-profit cultural arts space, and the New York-based record label Mexican Summer. Since it began four years ago, in a West Texas town internationally recognized for its art and culture, Marfa Myths has showcased a diverse roster of under-the-radar talent.
