Though I pride myself on being an independent traveler—I was in the United States Peace Corps in Paraguay for two years, have been to six continents, and spent multiple years reviewing hotels across the U.S. and around the world, by myself— India is one country that I’ve never considered visiting as a solo traveler. I’ll book a trip alone to many destinations without a second thought, but India is… intimidating. Its reputation of crowds, chaos, and safety problems for women gave me pause. Of course I wanted to see the Taj Mahal, eat tandoori where it was invented, and experience the color, magic, and energy that makes India famous worldwide. I just didn’t want to do it alone. So, when I was invited to experience New Delhi, Agra, and Kathmandu (in Nepal) as part of a G Adventures group trip, the answer was immediately and definitely yes. Pre-trip, as I filled out the India visa paperwork and shopped for conservative clothing, I was thrilled with the … [Read more...] about The Benefits of Visiting India and Nepal with a Group

First, there's the setting along the Arabian Sea combined with the feel of being in a bustling metropolis. Then there's the fantastic shopping, restaurants and culture. And the numerous historical attractions of Mumbai include three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Elephanta Caves, the railway station Victoria Terminus and its collection of Victorian and art deco buildings. Luxury seekers should know that Mumbai happens to be India's most expensive destination by far, according to Shahrookh Cambata, who was born and brought up in the city and is the CEO of Greaves India, a company that sells upscale India vacations. On a recent trip to Southeast Asia, I saw signs warning about Zika transmission and realized that it had been over a year since I had heard about the virus. And though a lot has changed the Zika outbreak, Zika is still affecting almost 100 countries in some capacity. After interviewing medical professionals and researching Zika on the CDC’s website, I think this underreporting is the result of zero reported cases of mosquito-bite transmission of Zika in the continental U.S. in 2018. Even Puerto Rico, while it still has the Zika virus, has seen a drop in cases. Because of this decline, Zika has largely gone unreported in 2018 for North Americans. Related:What You Need to Know About the Zika Virus [Updated 2018] So, What About the Rest of the World? The CDC lists almost 100 countries as “areas with risk of Zika,” including popular tourist destinations like India, Mexico, Peru, Fiji, the Maldives, and Singapore, just to name a few.
