Gov. Tim Walz said Matt Frank "will be a remarkable judge who will approach this position with the understanding that justice is a process, not a result." Frank is an experienced attorney with the state Attorney General's Office, and he helped lead the state's prosecution of Chauvin and three other former Minneapolis police officers who were charged in Floyd's killing. Lorena Portillo will succeed Joe Gloria, who ran elections in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, for nearly a decade and worked in the elections department since 2020. He had long planned to leave the office after last year’s midterms to work at the National Association of Election Officials. Portillo, appointed as registrar of voters unanimously by the Clark County Commission, has worked in the Clark County elections department for 25 years. Now, it's pistachio trees as far as the eye can see. Far from mature, the pistachio saplings are just a few feet tall. The trees were planted for "miles and miles, clear up to the base of the mountain," said Walsh, a lifelong Kingman resident and head of Mohave County's Department of Development Services. Over the past decade, the vast desert area around the 33,000-person city of Kingman has been transformed into an agricultural enclave. Green alfalfa fields were first planted below the mountains, then eventually replaced with thirsty pistachio trees.
