Nine players left, one Iron Throne Text by Matthew GilbertDesign and development by Patrick GarvinIllustrations by Brendan Lynch April 10, 2019 The game is going to be up soon, as “Game of Thrones” begins its final season on HBO Sunday night. The cast has shrunk across the seven seasons so far, and the remaining contenders are circling around that throne-shaped mass of iron like buzzards over a carcass. Shawn Windsor Detroit Free Press Published 1:27 PM EDT Mar 19, 2019 It’s that time again. The NCAA tournament bracket is back. Which means I’m about to stubbornly pick Michigan to beat Michigan State one more time … … in the Final Four. The fourth time is the charm, right? Actually, no. I’m not going to do that. But I will pick U-M and MSU to … OK, let’s get started – and no, I’m not throwing darts at my bracket to justify my choices. NCAA tournament first round East Region No. 1 Duke over No. 16 North Dakota State (the Bison will beat North Carolina Central in the play-in game): Easiest pick in the bracket. Zion Williamson could jump over Mt. Rushmore – yes, the monument is in South Dakota. For our purposes, the Dakotas count as a single state. No. 9 Central Florida over No. 8 Virginia Commonwealth: Florida is the more interesting state. No. 5 … [Read more...] about March Madness predictions 2019: Who will win every game
If you’ve been paying attention, you know the Oscars are shaping up to be one of the biggest question marks in the ceremony’s 91-year history. How will the show fare without a host? It seems to just exist. Watching it feels like floating through someone’s memories.Who will … [Read more...] about Who should win, who will win at the Oscars

Anderson, forcing Jared Goff to beat them, but Goff will rise to the challenge and bring L.A. its first Rams Super Bowl championship. Twenty-seven thoughts on the Patriots’ 27-13 win over the Jets on Sunday . . . 1. It wasn’t pretty, and it’s understandable to wonder why the Patriots aren’t scoring more when the league is trending toward Arena League statistics, but a win is a win is a win, especially on the road against the Jets. The Jets are hardly a model franchise, or even a rival at this point, but they have a habit of playing the Patriots tough at home. The Patriots are now 8-3. That’s all that matters against an opponent with a knack for being a nuisance. 2. Consider: The Patriots beat the Jets at MetLife Stadium by 7 last year, by 5 in 2016, lost by 6 in ’15, and won by a point in ’14. In three of those seasons the Patriots went to the Super Bowl. In two of them they won the thing. There are no big conclusions to be drawn from this one, because this is how it usually goes. 3. One thing I’ve kind of taken for granted this season? Julian Edelman has lost … [Read more...] about 27 thoughts on the Patriots’ 27-13 win over the Jets
