Associated Press Published 12:01 PM EST Feb 5, 2019 Kalamazoo – A southwestern Michigan man who fatally shot six strangers in between picking up passengers for Uber was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with no chance of parole. Jason Dalton, 48, received the mandatory sentence in Kalamazoo County court. He pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder last month, just as jury selection was about to begin. Dalton admitted shooting eight people in three locations in the Kalamazoo area in February 2016. After his arrest , police quoted Dalton as saying a “devil figure” on Uber’s app was controlling him on the day of the shootings. Four women were killed in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant: Barbara Hawthorne, Dorothy “Judy” Brown, Mary Lou Nye and her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Nye. Fifty-nine weeks have gone by since Amazon told the world that it was ready to expand beyond its Seattle headquarters. It would make a $5 billion investment doing it and hire 50,000 highly-paid workers over the next decade or two. No news is good news: Outside of the D.C. area, cities on the finalist list -- among them Austin, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Newark -- have gracefully stood by as mostly Northern Virginia gets all the attention. But after a late-night conversation with friends, singer Kevin Dexter rallied the musical troops and put the show back together.This year, a dozen musicians will take on classic rock band Queen in Yaaass Queen and rock band the B-52s as Schlock Lobster. None of the seven bombs detonated Wednesday, and nobody was hurt as authorities in New York, Washington, D.C., Florida and California seized the suspicious packages. On Thursday, New York police removed a suspicious package from a building associated with actor Robert De Niro. A law enforcement source tells the Associated Press that the device found Thursday appeared to be linked to the others sent to Democratic figures and CNN’s New York City hub.
