DENVER — The jokes don’t stop. Seeing a herd of 30 media types hovering in Pepsi Center to get the scoop on the playoff-bound Nuggets, the star of the show ducked into the locker room.“I am not that interesting,” Nikola Jokic said to no one in particular.Good one. After Tuesday’s 95-92 win against the Pistons, the reluctant star has only nine games until he takes on a leading role in the Western Conference playoffs. There will be no more hiding the NBA’s best-kept secret when the calendar flips to win-or-go-home time. And the Nuggets would be making a mistake to go all-out for the No. 1 seed in the West. Even while they rack up wins at a fantastic rate, hitting 50 on March 26, it’s coming at a cost. In nearly blowing a 27-point lead on Tuesday, the Nuggets often looked like a team that’s just flat-out exhausted. Murray saves Nuggets from collapse in win over PistonsJokic has played 300 out of a possible 319 games in his time here. Jokes every man should know
Dear Meredith, Almost two years ago, I started seeing a guy in the cafeteria at work. One day while I was eating lunch with my coworkers, he happened to be sitting at the table next to me. We made eye contact several times and I thought immediately that it was love at first sight. My stomach had butterflies and I became distracted by him for the remainder of lunch. Then one day when I was sitting alone he came over and began talking to me, and I felt that spark again. We started meeting up after work for drinks and texting, but then I realized I was the one initiating the majority of our conversations. I wouldn't talk to him for a couple weeks, and then when I'd text him he would answer as if everything was fine. He would occasionally make comments/jokes saying "When we're married …," so that's what made me think he had the same feeling, too. Now, almost two years later, we still talk fairly frequently, but we don't hang out outside of work like we used to. We'll eat lunch … [Read more...] about How do I know if my office crush is reciprocated?
Walking onto the Midburn playa, deep in the Negev Desert in Israel, it was hard not to feel I’d entered a space portal and somehow magically been transported to Nevada’s Black Rock City (I mean, anyone who has ever been to a burn knows that stranger things have happened, ha!). The confusion makes sense, to an extent — Midburn is an official Burning Man-inspired regional burn, the second largest in the world. But with the clock-like grid of camps surrounding a dusty central playa scattered with flammable works of art, the two were so visually similar it was striking. That said, the differences between them were notable — and also, in some cases, provided fascinating insights into the cultures of the United States and Israel. Whenever I mentioned to someone at Midburn that I’d been to Burning Man, twice, they were quick to ask how the temporary cities compared. When I returned, my Burning Man friends had the same questions about Midburn. One thing … [Read more...] about The Top Ten Differences Between Burning Man and Midburn • Alex in Wanderland
Viet Nam News by Hồ Anh Thái His name was Ananda, and Ananda means satisfaction and bliss. One morning he went to the director of the factory that stood just outside his village and asked for a million rupees. This sum, he knew, would be large enough to build a great temple with a unique architectural design, the kind of temple that would lure droves of tourists to the village. Until now, tourists had passed by quickly, as if Ananda’s village were located in a wasteland. But the young director—he was the same age as Ananda—refused outright. Wasn’t India already overburdened with millions of temples, an abundance of gods, and a shortage of everything else? No, he would only donate a small contribution to the village charity fund. And when he said “small,” Ananda knew, the young director wasn’t simply being modest—he meant really small. Tiny. And as for the temple fund, the answer was “no.” And that was that. And … [Read more...] about The Man Who Stood On One Leg
