By DEREK GATOPOULOS KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A United Nations-chartered ship loaded with 23,000 metric tons of Ukrainian grain destined for Ethiopia was getting ready Sunday to set sail from a Black Sea port, the first shipment of its kind in a program to assist countries facing famine. The Brave Commander cargo ship plans to leave the Ukrainian port of Yuzhne, east of Odesa, and sail to Djibouti, where the grain will be unloaded and transferred to Ethiopia under the World Food Program initiative. Ukraine and Russia reached a deal with Turkey on July 22 to restart Black Sea grain deliveries, addressing the major export disruption that has occurred since Russia invaded Ukraine in February. Ethiopia is one of five countries that the U.N. considers at risk of starvation. “The capacity is there. The grain is there. The demand is there across the world and in particular, these countries,” Denise Brown, the U.N. resident coordinator in Ukraine, told The Associated Press. “So if the … [Read more...] about Ship carrying grain for Ethiopia ready to leave Ukraine

(AP) — Some Florida schools have moved library books and debated changing textbooks in response to a law critics call “Don’t Say Gay” — and some teachers have worried that family pictures on their desks could get them in trouble. As students return from summer break, educators are cautiously adjusting and waiting to see how the new law governing lessons on gender and sexual orientation will be interpreted and enforced. The new law, championed by Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, bans lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade as well as material that is not deemed age-appropriate. Most educators do not expect a major change in lesson plans — one of the key reasons critics cited in saying the law was unnecessary was that teachers do not cover such subjects in early grades anyway. But some worry it sets a … [Read more...] about So-called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law confuses some Florida schools

Winners Ekin-Su, 27, and her boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti sat down with host Laura to talk about what life has been like outside the villa. A MUM has told of her heartbreak after she lost her baby when she was nine months pregnant just days before her due date. Ceri Amphlette, 36, had been two days into her maternity leave when she began to experience cramping but never imagined what was to come. Up until that point the mum, 36, who lives in Rugby, Warks, had experienced no major complications with her pregnancy and had no reason to believe that anything would go wrong. Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, business development manager Ceri says: “We became pregnant quite quickly, it was only about three months in that we found out we were expecting. “I was 33 at the time and my partner was 34 so we were glad to be getting things underway in the parenting department as we had met slightly later in life. “My pregnancy was relatively smooth, I had gestational diabetes and a few high blood pressure readings but nothing that was of concern, or so we thought.” READ MORE EXCLUSIVE STORIES … [Read more...] about I lost my baby at 9 months pregnant & stayed with him six days after he died – I even introduced him to his grandparents
