Updated 5:04 pm CDT, Tuesday, October 8, 2019 LAS VEGAS (AP) — The government agency that promotes Las Vegas tourism is banning members from accepting gifts and tightening restrictions on travel. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board voted Tuesday to tighten ethics rules following the arrest of three former agency executives, including its retired chief executive, Rossi Ralenkotter. Ralenkotter and the executives are accused of theft of $90,000 in airline gift cards purchased with tax dollars between 2012 and 2017. The board includes eight local elected officials and six business and casino executives. It oversees an agency with a $251 million annual operating budget, funded mostly with hotel room taxes. Board Chairman Larry Brown says that from now on, the board and the agency executive have to sign off on agency travel spending. ___ Information from: Las Vegas Review-Journal, http://www.lvrj.com … [Read more...] about Las Vegas tourist agency adopts new rules on gifts, travel

REVIEW: SDMT puts on a compelling ‘Man of La Mancha’
San Diego Musical Theatre’s “Man of La Mancha” is a moving tale of dreams, heartbreak and the realities of Spanish life circa 1594 as two stories unfold on the Horton Grand Theatre stage through Oct. 27.The first is of a man named Don Miguel de Cervantes (Broadway veteran Robert J. Townsend), an unsuccessful poet, soldier and actor who has turned to tax collecting as a means of survival. Unfortunately for him, he foreclosed on a monastery and — as a consequence — is imprisoned in Seville, Spain and is awaiting trial for heresy since the show takes place in the midst of the Spanish Inquisition.(The Inquisition was a 355-year effort by Catholic monarchs to identify heretics and bring them to justice.)His fellow detainees have their own hierarchy in the prison, as Cervantes and his also imprisoned servant Sancho (Broadway veteran Jeffrey Landman) quickly find out. To save his meager possessions — mostly costumes, but especially a manuscript for a play … [Read more...] about REVIEW: SDMT puts on a compelling ‘Man of La Mancha’

Lux Hotel Review: Belmond La Residencia, Mallorca
Looking for luxury Majorca Holidays? Belmond La Residencia in Deia is one of Mallorca’s leading hotels On this trip, I discovered one of the most special hotels I have had the pleasure of staying at: the stunning Belmond La Residencia. My love for Mallorca is very well documented in this blog. It is an island I have visited over 20 times (I kid you not) and I try to make a special effort to return every year. Why? Because I still feel I haven’t scratched its surface – there is always something more to see or do (or not do at all) in the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands. The hotel is very well known, as it was previously owned by Richard Branson. It is located in Deia, in the north-west coast of Mallorca (around 45 mins from Palma de Mallorca, the island’s capital). This little town is very special as it is a UNESCO World Heritage village, at the heart of the Tramuntana mountain range. As you can probably gather, the setting is quite … [Read more...] about Lux Hotel Review: Belmond La Residencia, Mallorca
