LAS VEGAS (AP) — The most “restless” summer monsoon season in a decade became deadly late Thursday, spawning lightning and thunderstorms in parts of southern Nevada while a leaky ceiling forced table games to stop at one Las Vegas Strip casino. One person died about midnight despite being pulled by firefighters from a roiling flood-control channel near the Las Vegas Boulevard resort area, Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Billy Samuels said Friday. The Clark County coroner did not immediately report the person’s identity or cause of death. Water also flowed through a parking structure flood channel near The Linq hotel and High Roller observation wheel, and social media posts showed water leaking from the ceiling onto gambling tables at the Planet Hollywood resort. No injuries were reported. Officials with Caesars Entertainment Inc., owner of both properties, did not immediately respond to messages about damage. The overnight storm was similar to another that swept through Las … [Read more...] about 1 dead amid ‘restless’ monsoon-season flooding in Las Vegas

Vikings’ Cousins has COVID-19, won’t play preseason opener
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not play this weekend in the team's first preseason game. Coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed the diagnosis Friday at practice, where Cousins was absent for a second straight day. He felt ill Thursday and sent home. “I like the way he handled it, reporting the symptoms and going through our in-house process we have here,” O'Connell said. "Ultimately looking out for his teammates and making sure we’ll get him back, ready to roll as soon as possible.” Cousins has “very minimal” symptoms, O'Connell said. Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond will split time in the exhibition Sunday at Las Vegas, where Cousins was unlikely to play much, if at all, even if he wasn't sick. There are no other quarterbacks on the roster. “No matter who starts, they’re both going to play a ton. Big evaluation game for us of those guys,” O'Connell said. "They’ve done a lot of really good things in camp, and now … [Read more...] about Vikings’ Cousins has COVID-19, won’t play preseason opener

Rapper Tupac Shakur is dead, the conspiracy theories are all lies and the Las Vegas police should finally lay the ghost of the rap icon to rest, says filmmaker and investigative producer Mike Dorsey. Dorsey, who worked on the acclaimed shows Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G and Murder Rap, is urging Las Vegas Police to finally kill 23 years of speculation about Tupac being alive. Currently the murder case of the rapper remains open, even though Dorsey has met with cops to present his entire research including an eye witness statement that Tupac was gunned down by a Compton gang member Orlando Anderson. Dorsey says it is time 'for justice for Tupac' and for the 'public to hear and accept the truth.' after over two decades of silence from law authorities. Two of the four sets of human remains found in drought-wracked Lake Mead may be from the SAME person, coroner says
Two of the four sets of human remains discovered in Lake Mead thanks to historically-low water levels could be from the same person, coroners said on Tuesday. The bones and other fragments began emerging in May - first with a male body in a barrel. The person had been shot in the head, and a homicide investigation has been opened. It is believed the man was killed in the 1970s or 80s. On May 7, a person believed to be aged between 23 and 38 was found at Callville Bay, and DNA samples were taken. A man living in Spain , Todd Kolod, has said he is increasingly confident that set of remains is his father Daniel, who was killed in a speedboat accident on the lake in 1958, aged 22, and whose body was never recovered. A third set of remains was found on July 26, at Swim Beach, and on Saturday a fourth set was unearthed at the same location. 'At this time, the investigation into these remains includes working to determine whether the two sets of remains are from the same person or … [Read more...] about Two of the four sets of human remains found in drought-wracked Lake Mead may be from the SAME person, coroner says
Bay Area favorites Humphry Slocombe and Señor Sisig collaborate on unique ice cream flavor
Two popular Bay Area businesses, and soon-to-be neighbors inside the Ferry Building, have collaborated on a new ice cream flavor inspired by two classic desserts. Humphry Slocombe shared an Instagram post on Thursday showcasing its latest ice cream flavor in collaboration with Señor Sisig. It’s called “churron,” which is a mashup between the words (and flavors) of a churro and turon, a popular Filipino fried dessert typically made with banana, jackfruit, brown sugar, and lumpia wrappers. “With our soon-to-be Señor Sisig location at the Ferry Building, this sweet collab couldn't have come at a better time,” Evan Kidera told SFGATE in a statement. Kidera added that Humphry Slocombe reached out to Señor Sisig ahead of its Ferry Building grand opening sometime this summer with a pitch to craft a flavor together. Kidera shared that for the collaboration he wanted to focus on Mexican and Filipino flavors (much like Señor Sisig’s existing menu) and that the team decided on … [Read more...] about Bay Area favorites Humphry Slocombe and Señor Sisig collaborate on unique ice cream flavor
