We all dream of traveling to far-flung destinations and staying at ultraluxe hotels, but nobody likes to break his/her wallet on a holiday. When booking a room at a luxury hotel, you will have to choose whether you want the cheapest price for that room, or whether you want to pay more for enjoying extra perks and/or flexibility. As the year 2018 is drawing to a close, it’s a good time to reflect on the headlines and stories that shaped the past year. At first, it seems that a lot of bad news (again) dominated the headlines in 2018, with global trade wars, increasing tensions in the Middle East, and the damaging effects of climate change. But there were a lot of good things happening out there too. Romance doesn’t work in a heatwave. Clammy hands and glistening brows tend to fray tempers rather than stir passions. So when my fiancée, Sophie, and I arrived in the Lake District to celebrate our engagement with a weekend of indulgence à deux - in the middle of the hottest summer in living memory - I was a little apprehensive.
