Brighton owner Tony Bloom saw his star horse finish third at Cheltenham on Saturday after one mystery punter placed a staggering £725,000 bet on the nine-year-old. Champion Chase hero Energumene went off as a heavily backed favourite in the rearranged Clarence House Chase. That resulted in one punter putting £350,000 at 4-7 and £375,000 at 8-15. The Racing Post states that the mystery punter is rumoured to be Bloom himself. Star Sports stated on social media that they stood to lose £400,000 if Energumene had won the six-runner race. However, the Brighton-based bookie prevailed as the Bloom-owned horse finished third behind 14/1 winner Editeur Du Gite and Edwardstone in second. WHEN you're in debt, clearing it can seem impossible - but Rachel managed to wipe hers and buy her first home in just two years. Office manager Rachel Elliott was struggling after racking up £20,000 of debt three years ago. She had two credit card debts, two overdrafts, a loan for her car and car finance debts. The 37-year-old said that as a "proud person", it was hard to admit that homeownership was a pipe-dream unless she made a drastic change. But after facing up to the amount of money she owed, Rachel and her partner Rebecca, 27, who works in a pharmacy, sat down together in March 2020 to figure out how to clear it with the aim of buying their first home together. Rachel created a spreadsheet based on their incomings and outgoings to see how much they could pay off per month. Some 100,000 members of the public, nursing staff and patients have signed a letter urging the Prime Minister to raise nurses’ wages that was delivered to Downing Street this morning. The Royal College of Nursing, who organised the letter (which is printed in full at the end of this article), is warning Rishi Sunak on his 100th day in office that the NHS is “deteriorating rapidly” on his watch. In a major escalation, nurses are planning to walk out next Monday and Tuesday at a bigger number of hospitals than previous action. The NHS will see strikes take place everyday next week except for Wednesday with ambulance workers, nurses, physiotherapists and midwives in Wales to walk out. February 6 (Monday) marks the first time paramedics and nurses will down tools on the same day. The RCN said the NHS has far from improved during the Prime Minister’s first 100 days in the job.
