In the summer of 2007, I went to Yellowstone with my wife, Lupita, and our two sons, Sean and Conor (then 11 and 12 years old). On one hike, we went to Grebe Lake, where we planned to fish for grayling. The start of the hike goes through a large area of standing dead trees left from the fires of 1988. The path winds through the grove of snags. It’s a very stark yet interesting area, and I enjoyed taking pictures as we hiked in. It’s 9am on a Monday, Paseo de la Reforma in the centre of Mexico City is beginning to wake up. Banks with marble foyers are opening up their doors and coffee shops with Wi-Fi are facing their morning rush. The ten lanes of traffic are already heavy with cars, taxis and minibuses, and at the intersection with Avenue Insurgentes, two policewomen wearing flattering trousers and bold eyeshadow direct the flow with sharp blasts of their whistles. On the broad, tree-lined pavements, there’s a steady flow of chilangos – as the residents of Mexico City are known – scurrying to work. Among them is 23-year-old Jael Cedillo Rodriguez. Dressed in a pink, tailored jacket and four-inch heels, she hurries through the crowds clutching a clear plastic briefcase, listening to Shakira on her iPod. Diligent, switched on, ambitious and open-minded, Cedillo is part of a new generation of chilangos who are embracing a new way of life. Her days are typically busy. By the time she … [Read more...] about Mexico City: boom town
Ryan Coogler, director of the Atlanta-filmed hit, Black Panther, said he would be happy to see an all-female spinoff starring the women of Wakanda.Last week during a panel discussion at the Cannes Film Festival, Coogler said he was into the idea. “Oh man,” said Coogler according to Variety. “That would be amazing if the opportunity came up. They did it in the comic-book version.” Coogler also stated that one of his favorite parts of Black Panther included a stretch in which T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is believed to be dead and the audience is following the women in the film.“That part of it was exciting. We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie,” Coogler said. “Some of them have before. We were so fortunate. I would watch a movie with them!” Related: Life with Gracie: ‘Black Panther’ puts black hair front and center on the big screen “Them” would be actresses including Danai … [Read more...] about Ryan Coogler would direct a female spinoff of ‘Black Panther’
