Susan Tompor Detroit Free Press Published 7:00 AM EDT Apr 3, 2019 Economic gurus got one part of the mortgage forecast for 2019 correct. We're certainly seeing a volatile year for rates. The rate drop comes just in time for the spring home-buying season and will make monthly payments less expensive. "This drop in rates is going to give the housing market a boost," said Bill Banfield, executive vice president of capital markets for Quicken Loans. Rick Kelleher is a big, white-haired, crisply presented man who looks very much the way you’d expect a Boston Irish power broker to look. If you found yourself sitting next to him on a plane, you might notice how he kept the conversation flowing naturally and emphasized his points with the physicality of a great salesman, dramatically raising his eyebrows and cocking his head. On this morning, Kelleher is seated at a back table in the lobby restaurant of the elegant Boston Harbor Hotel, where the server knows exactly how he likes his house-smoked salmon. He carries himself as if he owns the place, and, in a way, he does.
