More info US President Joe Biden has vowed to defend "every inch" of NATO territory this week as Russia and Ukraine continue to fight. Speaking at the NATO meetings in Madrid, he said the alliance will be “ready for threats in all directions,” a reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression. NATO allies have helped Ukraine with weapons supplies during the conflict, and experts believe the war has now brought Western nations and Russia closer to direct fighting than they have been in decades. As the war shows no signs of abating and Russian troops are making advances in Ukraine, fear is mounting over the possibility of Putin targeting other neighbouring countries – the latest country under threat was Lithuania over its blockade of Russia’s enclave of Kaliningrad. VLADIMIR Putin has blasted the G7 as "disgusting" after world leaders MOCKED the Russian tyrant for his shirtless horse-riding images. The G7 leaders met on Sunday to discuss their response to Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine and gathered for photos in front of media. Prime Minister Boris Johnson then used the warm weather as an opportunity to mock President Putin for previously showing off his physique . “Jackets on? Jackets off? Shall we take our clothes off?” Mr Johnson said, before Canadian PM Justin Trudeau chimed in: “We're going to get the bare-chested horseback riding display,” in reference to a picture of President Putin riding shirtless on a horse in 2009. A girl fled her war-torn homeland, but found more trauma in San Francisco
The morning began like most in the Saleh family’s tiny studio six floors above Turk and Hyde streets in the Tenderloin. The four children rose from their mats on the floor as their parents emerged from the closet where they share a small mattress. Abu Bakr Saleh, the father and sole earner in the family of refugees who fled the war in Yemen, rushed to begin a 16-hour double shift at a grocery store and a KFC. His wife, Sumaya Albadani, began an isolating day of cooking, cleaning and waiting for the others to return. The kids — Ahmed, 16, Asma, 15, Raghad, 12, and Maya, 10 — rode a rickety elevator down to one of the city’s most distressed blocks, before fanning out to their four schools. But on Sept. 29, 2021, Raghad didn’t reach hers. The sixth-grader at Francisco Middle School in North Beach — who had suffered a major trauma the year before, when an immigration fiasco forced her family to leave her with strangers in Egypt — lingered on the 400 block of Larkin Street while … [Read more...] about A girl fled her war-torn homeland, but found more trauma in San Francisco

‘Stranger Things’ plays the too-long game in its super-sized season finale
(CNN) "Stranger Things" has taken the idea of playing the long game to heart a bit too literally, capping its super-sized fourth season with two sprawling episodes that total nearly four hours. Whether that's a reward to fans or self-indulgence by the producers rests in the eye of the beholder, but after this, it's hard to imagine many concluding that ending things with season five qualifies as premature. This season has already turned the Kate Bush song "Running Up That Hill" into a chart-topping hit 37 years later , but the way the episodes unfold "running" isn't quite the word for it; rather, it's more like brisk walk with detours along the way. In hindsight, the main innovation might have to do with scheduling, with this Volume 1 and 2 approach (timed first to Memorial Day, and now the Fourth of July) spreading the wealth for Netflix, which really should consider dropping episodes weekly for the finishing run to milk the media attention that much longer. … [Read more...] about ‘Stranger Things’ plays the too-long game in its super-sized season finale
