Meet the man introducing Malaysia to new flavors

· October 7, 2019 ·

(CNN) — The first clue is the name itself: The Sake Place. In busy Kuala Lumpur, Danny Leong's restaurant is a place to sit, relax and enjoy a glass of some of the world's best sake. "I think the best way to get people excited about sake is food," Leong says. "Everyone loves food!" And he knows what he's talking about. Leong is the first person in Malaysia to earn the coveted title of Master Sake Sommelier, and he takes his role as a food and drink ambassador seriously. While Japanese food is popular in Malaysia, the idea of pairing sake with non-Japanese foods is a new twist that has been bringing curious diners into The Sake Place. "In this part of the world we use a lot of sauces and spices," Leong explains. His star dish brings sake into one of those trademark sauces: shellfish glass noodles in a spicy assam broth. The Sake Place's diverse menu includes a delicious Asian seabass dish. Eli Manning, Hall of Famer? You’d better believe it

· October 7, 2019 ·

Back when Manning was the Patriots’ worst nightmare. Bill Belichick wasn’t kidding Monday when he concluded his heaping pile of praise for Manning by saying, “I have a ton of respect for Eli and all that he’s done. I wish he’d done a little bit less in a couple games against us.” Does anyone actually need reminding? Tom Brady & Co. would have two more rings if not for Manning’s heroics. There was the first shocking upset back in February 2008, when a then-perfect Patriot team watched Manning escape a sack he never should have escaped to complete a pass he never should have completed, a connection to David Tyree that remains one of the greatest Super Bowl plays of all time. Then there was the upset sequel four years later, when one Manning throw again made the difference in the game, a sideline strike to Mario Manningham that you can put up against any throw by any great quarterback in a league celebrating its 100th anniversary this … [Read more...] about Eli Manning, Hall of Famer? Preseason darlings have turned back into the Browns

· October 12, 2019 ·

Their 2-3 record entering Sunday’s home game against the Seahawks is bad enough. But they were embarrassed on national TV last week, looking disorganized and feckless in a 31-3 loss to the 49ers. “To say we didn’t play well Monday night is an understatement,” defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said. “Very embarrassing the way the defense performed, and I take full blame and responsibility for that.” The Browns’ defense certainly played poorly in San Francisco, and is ranked 21st in points allowed (24.4 per game). But the offense looks dysfunctional under first-time head coach Freddie Kitchens. Mayfield has just four touchdown passes against eight interceptions this year, his 55.9 completion percentage ranks 33rd out of 34 qualifying quarterbacks, and his 68.5 passer rating ranks 32nd. And Beckham has been shockingly quiet, with 23 catches for 335 yards and just one touchdown. Beckham has had a career-low two catches in each of his last … [Read more...] about Preseason darlings have turned back into the Browns

Lapping up Luxury in India

· October 13, 2019 ·

We flew into Delhi on the last day of June with our son, his wife and their three children.  For me a most wonderful opportunity to show them all India, the India that I know and love. The timing is not what I would choose ordinarily but, considering the children’s long holiday starts end of June, and such a visit requires three weeks to enjoy a comprehensive experience of India as an introduction, we had to go then and brave the heat and the monsoon.  It worked out well. Normally we prefer the months of November to end of March. We stayed for three nights at The Imperial Hotel New Delhi; this fine heritage five-star luxury hotel has been in my conscious for sixty years and is a most wonderful welcome to the capital of India.  The three generations of family were warmly welcomed into gracious suites and the pool enticed the children immediately – well like walking into a lukewarm bath but so welcome! The cuisines are glorious and varied and we were given a … [Read more...] about Lapping up Luxury in India

7 things to know about the arrests of the 2 Giuliani associates

· October 9, 2019 ·

Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman are Florida-based executives of an energy company. Parnas, 47, a former stockbroker, was born in Ukraine and is a naturalized US citizen. Fruman was born in Belarus and is also a naturalized US citizen. Parnas has told The Washington Post that Giuliani, Trump’s outspoken, combative lawyer, is a ‘‘very good friend’’ but their relationship is not longstanding. Parnas said he got to know Giuliani while fund-raising for Trump’s 2016 campaign. ‘‘The relationship bonded and built over time. We’re just very close,’’ he said. In May, Giuliani tweeted that Parnas and Fruman were his ‘‘clients.” He recently said they had sought his advice on a business venture. What did they do for Giuliani in Ukraine? Parnas and Fruman have acted as emissaries in Ukraine for Giuliani. They helped him in his efforts to dig up information about, and encourage investigations into, Trump’s … [Read more...] about 7 things to know about the arrests of the 2 Giuliani associates
